    How to Re-Elect Trump
You’re so deplorable you can’t eat in their restaurants.

Hillary Clinton lost the Presidency in 2016 for many reasons but one was surely because she called people who disagreed with her a “basket of deplorables.” Millions of Americans knew who she meant, and nearly 63 million voted for Donald J. Trump.

The political left is now repeating that mistake as its cultural and political vanguard sends a message of condescension, hostility and now ostracism to anyone who voted for Mr. Trump or has worked with or for him for the good of the country. Their relentless contempt might end up re-electing him.

On that score don’t underestimate how the refusal by a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will resonate politically. Ms. Sanders had taken a seat at the Red Hen with several others on Friday when owner Stephanie Wilkinson asked her to leave. Ms. Wilkinson told the press, which is turning her into Rosa Parks, that her restaurant “has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.”

Except toward people who don’t share Ms. Wilkinson’s views. Rest assured every Trump supporter in America will be reminded of this episode from here to November. The message: Now you’re so deplorable they won’t serve you in their restaurants.

Meanwhile, hecklers ran Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant in Washington, D.C. last week. Protesters are also harassing Ms. Nielsen at home, blaring audio of crying children detained at the border and shouting “no justice, no sleep.”

Then there’s actor Seth Rogen, who bragged on TV that he recently refused to take a picture with Paul Ryan and the House Speaker’s sons. He delivered a lecture instead. Apparently rudeness to children is now a badge of courage.

No doubt some on the right behave as badly—though when they do they don’t become media heroes. But the irony is that the main beneficiary of all this is Donald Trump.

Republicans know that Mr. Trump often acts deplorably, and many also dislike his immigration policies, especially his recent separation of parents from children. The resulting political uproar, not least from Republicans, has caused the White House to change policy and keep immigrant families together.

But Republicans and other voters also know when they are being sneered at and marginalized. They don’t think it’s un-American to ask if maybe immigrant parents shouldn’t take their toddlers on a dangerous illegal trip across the border. They may not like Mr. Trump personally, but they do like that he stands up to the cultural arbiters who hate them. Mr. Rogen and his fellow political censors won’t admit it, but they are playing into Donald Trump’s hands.

I'm not sure how you're supposed to be able to reason with people who vote for president based on something as ridiculously stupid as Sarah Huckabee Sanders being kicked out of a restaurant for her political beliefs.

Wow... the right wing WSJ editorial thinks Democrats are bad for saying bad things about trump and his administration. My favorite part... "no doubt some on the right behave as badly—though when they do they don’t become media heroes."

Furthermore, this quote shows how naive (at best) or purposefully dishonest the WSJ editors are presenting what happend:

The "not least by republicans"... and the "caused the WH to change policy and keep families together". First, we don't actually know that the families are being kept together. Many already split up haven't been reunited. Some aren't even known where the separated children and parents are. And... trump's new policy has a 20 day deadline... after which, separations can go back in place. Yet... WSJ editors choose to tout this as a win for republican morals...

Yes, we must hold actors and restaurant owners to a higher standard than the President of the United States. Forever giving Trump the lowest bar possible to allow him to continue behaving like a piece of **** while he gas lights American democracy. Kudos for another stupid editorial that fails to hold Republicans accountable for their support of an ignorant, lying, racist buffoon. The normalization of a tyrant.

I agree that the lack of civility on the left is electoral poison.

However, Trump is so toxic and incompetent I doubt this will have an impact.

If Romney or Bush or McCain were in office, absolutely, this would be political suicide.

Deplorable president with deplorable hostage policies.

B-b-b-but I'm a citizen of principles and the rule of law!

When you break your back to shove your head far up the ass to go "zero tolerance on misdemeanors", that's a good heat check for how far gone you are when it comes to common decency.

When the very first sentence contains an oft repeated lie...

Hillary Clinton lost the Presidency in 2016 for many reasons but one was surely because she called people who disagreed with her a “basket of deplorables.”

...it is difficult to take any of the article seriously.

For the record, here are the people that Clinton called "deplorables."

“The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic—you name it."

If you are any of those five, "deplorable" isn't inaccurate.

The Democrats should use the truth as a baseball bat and swing away with purpose. If the Republicans get their fee-fees hurt, slam them as triggered snowflakes.

I think that those right of center respect toughest, so they should completely respect when Trump gets pummelled for making **** up.

Politics is a contact sport and the Democrats appear to have forgotten that. Maybe in the post-Hillary party ...

There should have been a companion article ... How to Not Re-Elect Trump ... Start a trade war that is hard, that is not easily won and that throws the country into a recession ... mainly because Trump did not understand the economics the Wharton School taught him as a undergrad.

I agree. I think they should. I don't think not allowing people to eat at restaurants is really swinging away with purpose though.

Not to mention, if you fell into one of those categories, you were already planning to vote for trump.

Yeah but Sarah Huckabee Sanders is acting like a completely triggered snowflake.

This is all about the frame.

The Republicans are framing this as a restaurant owner treating Sanders like the deplorable (that she is).

The Democrats are not framing this but could frame this as Sanders being a completely triggered snowflake who got her fee-fees hurt.

I think all business owners should take a stand and publicly state who they will or will not serve based on political lean. Let's draw a line in the sand and take sides. I'm for that .

How to get Trump reelected - listen to the ****sticks from the WSJ editorial page for advice.

The fascist outrage machine gonna outrage and be fascists regardless.

They can do it eating filet of fish sandwiches with DJT. If thats the least bad thing that happens to them while in the course of literally dismantling our democracy and ruining everything with their grubby tiny paws...I guess those are the breaks.

No more eating in our restaurants or coaching our associations of basketball till you folks learn some manners.

    civility goes both ways boys.

Yeah unless you're a pearl clutching Sunday talk show douche...it's really not. The President of the United States. when not sexually assaulting or being a white supremacist or just overall petty b*stard is about the least civil person in public life today.

The left doesn't need to hold itself to a standard that the right threw in the toilet a long time ago.

George F. Wills protest vote will not get it done.

By all means, keep it up then. With that mentality you've lost the House, Senate, and White House while losing a chance to take the SCOTUS. If you were smart, you'd be trying to create as much separation between how you act and how the president acts. If you willingly get down in the mud to wrestle with a pig no one thinks less of the pig....but they do think less of you. In the end, the pig might end up looking better by comparison.
