Even when we get into the playoffs there's still going to be empty seats. The Texans always have a packed house because this city is a football town, Texas is a football state.

I agree this is a football state and so forth. But I still feel that the fan base is still smaller than it should even for the Texans. The Texans have the most fans but u have to take into account the fact they are new and the fact that Houston was without a team for 6 years. People should be lining up to go to the games, even though I hope it wont but I think support will wane in the next few years for them after the new smell is gone.

I agree tickets are expensive and so forth but there is no reason that a city as large as Houston with a brand new stadium should only get 9000 in attendance. You have to remember that every other stadium's tickets are in the same price range and that those places are still selling out most games. Especially considering Houston has legitimate star players in Yao and Steve and a winning record.

I think the attitude is just different from other places, In other cities I think people really treat the team like its their own, like they are identified with the team. But in Houston the teams are more like the that happens to be where you live.

I guess there just isnt the same sense of rivalry with other places or pride.

mrdave....theticket prices went up in that area, because they are in the "Club" section. Last year there was no club area or the benefits that come with that.

Wider seats, better food, your own entrance to the arena, parking etc...were all factored into the cost of your dads tickets.

The ticket prices everywhere else remained basically the same...and down in some cases.

There is more support for the Texans because of the relatively newness of the franchise and Texas is a football state...The Astros are also supported more due to the consistent winning...

I'm not sure what the deal is with the Rox...I'm unfortunately out of town and would get season tickets if I was back in h-town...

I'm going to this Sunday's Rox game and plan to be loud and obnoxious...

Here are my 2 biggest beefs about Rockets fans.

#1 - Too much in-fighting. Some people, for example, lift Yao up by bringing Steve down. Or they lift Steve up by bringing Cat down. Come on, people. We should want EVERY member of the team to perform on an all-star level. Let's not bring one Rocket down to lift another up. Let's not starve Peter to feed Paul. It's one thing to point out things players can improve upon, but it's another to bash & trash.

#2 - Fans are too concerned with how much $$ each player makes. And on a related note, fans don't care if a player has a good game or a bad game. Rockets fans care if a player has a good game based on his annual salary. Remember when you were a kid and didn't know how to spell collective bargaining agreement? Remember how you watched the game and it was fun? Those players have agents to worry about their money. Fans just need to worry about enjoying the game and rooting on the home team.

they claim seats are wider but they arent....people still have to stand to let people by...the parkin cost 15 extra per game and its a b**** at the end.....the entrance takes forever to get into now cause they scan everyone....just my opinion but they shouldnt be raising prices when they couldnt sell them before.....

    Not to nit-pick......but the seats are w i d e r not LONGER....parking is included, not $15 extra.

You figure you would know what you were talking about if you are going to complain as much as you do.

Does it really take that much longer for them to scan the ticket than tear it??

Geezus you people are whiney. It's amazing you can make it through the day without killing yourself.

You're complaining about one of the best seats in the house?? If you hate it so much don't go or give your tickets to somebody who will appreciate them for what they are......the best seats in the arena!!

Before there was a salary cap, it didn't matter what players made. Now, there are important implications on the makeup of the team that are determined by what players make. You are not going to go very far if you have a bunch of cap albatrosses on the roster, or at least not as far as you could without them. We have three players that are badly overpaid. That keeps us from getting more good players in Free Agency. Like it or not, the business is part of the game, and knowledgeable fans will concern themselves with it.

Neither of your reasons has much bearing on attendance though, as the casual fan that you need to fill up arenas will rarely participate even in objective analysis, let alone bashing, and has no knowledge or concern for contract situations.

freakin eh! I can see points on both sides, but come on....the only teams that show consistently to NBA games are in SacTown, LA and ??????????

My point here is that there are a myriad of factors....all I can say is that the Rox had a 5 year sellout streak that ended in approximately 1998. Why? Because no one on a general basis in the NBA pays to see consistent losing except in towns where it is the only game in town like SacTown...It is even easy to get a Knicks ticket these days!

In the past three year-five years, Boston, Chicago and prior to this year Denver turnouts were horrible.......

So on a Monday night, playing one of the worst teams in the league, in a stadium in which half the attendees must drive on average 20-25 miles to get to in one of the most congested parts of town, where the seats really do stink, though the arena is nice overall, and on a Monday night and the first night back for most from a holiday, do we really need the bashing!!!! Give this topic and the real fans a break....Look at the Texans! Look at the Astros...things do not look that bad in their arenas.....

I am a season ticketholder 9 years running and I love the rox more than most, but it has become more difficult to reach the arena consistently, so I sell about 2/3 of my seats to stay a ticket holder....but winning consistently does cure a lot, but that arena will always have trouble IMHO

But you know what? Cato has a fat contract and there's nothing anyone's moaning can do about it. So when he scores 9 points and grabs 12 boards people should be happy. Instead they just think he's not earning his paycheck. And I DO hear that represented in the stands. I KNOW if he had signed for the league minimum, people would LOVE the effort and hustle he gives, but instead people put a negative spin on what he does 'cause he gets paid a lot of money to do it. The fans I'm surrounded by do NOT seperate the check and the play on the court. I think they should, 'cause they'd enjoy the team a little bit more, but maybe that's just me.

You know what? Even the rookies get paid a lot of money. The guys sitting on the end of the bench get paid a lot of money. I just think fans need to get over the dollar signs and support the players for their efforts. Leave the $$ issues to the agents and management.

you just dont have to look at tc attendence to see how horrible houston fans are to the rockets. Just look at this board and sports radio 610. The only thing they will discuss about the rockets is "Well have to leave the air early today becasue there is a rockets game" (like its a bad thing or something!!!!!) The ytalk more about freakin pete rose and BCS!!!!!!! And then they go on about talking about coaching postitions for a college football team in some random North Dakota city!!!! ANd you will never hear anything about the rockets, THEIR OWN FREAKIN HOME NBA TEAM!!!!!!!!!

How about Houston teams does not have true superstars? Average fans are drawn to games by superstars of each sport. Houston doesn't have a Jordan or Michael Vick that you really want to watch the game.

Why is everyone complaining about attendance to Rockets games? Have you looked at the posts on this board? Have you looked at the games this season? The NBA is entertainment. The Rockets are not really entertaining right now. It is totally boring and the fact that you do have to sit at the top of the arena if you are not rich does not help matters any.

About Texans fans, alot of you are ignorant on the topic. Have you been to a Texans game? Have you been to the tailgating? Those are some rabid fans. In any fan base you have the hardcore fans and then you have the fans that couldn't tell you the rules of the game they are watching. But the Texans have a huge percentage of hardcore fans. Just go to a game and you will find that out. Opposing teams have talked about how passionate and knowledgable Houston fans are.

But back to the Rockets, I think it is pretty much impossible to attract fans with a team the totally under-performs. On top of that, it is a ugly, ugly brand of basketball. The fact that there a ton more games in the NBA season also hurts them. The 10 games(including preseason) the Texans play is alot more economical and not as time consuming as the Rockets season. NFL has it made in that respect. Fans can get hyped all week, and talk about the past game all week.

But with all that said, just like every other city, if the Rox start winning some games, people will go to the Toyota Center. But if this disappointing play continues, then you can look forward to no one being at the games. Memo to the Rockets: Let people move down when there are 9k in the stands!!! Who is that hurting? I know you don't want any of the poor 'germs' to rub off on your rich fanbase. but come on.

Houston's a football town. I expect no less from the Texans fans!

Back to the Rockets. I don't think just winning will put fans in the seats. You gotta score points. 80-70 isn't all that entertaining to a fanbase who pretty much prefers football & baseball over basketball. They don't wanna see hard-nosed defense. They wanna see highlight reel dunks and scores being run up. And they want their free Big Mac for goodness sake!

    Fan's sucking is a fricken oxy-moron.

If you don't have a good product, people will not buy it

I currently enjoy this forum more than I do watching the Rockets. I'm sure I'm not alone. This team is not in-sync, but unfortunately we will just have to suck it up, until they get better.

When they get better, I'll go see a game. Currently, my season's tickets are for the Texans and 70,000 screaming fans would take exception if you told them they sucked.

Still don't quite understanding the whole sheilding thing though:rolleyes:
