This narrative that says that Melania and Ivanka are compassionate and should influence Trump to do the right thing assumes - the thought must be that because they are women, they can't be racist, I guess - that they don't think like him. Typically, marrying someone with views and beliefs different than yours is a mistake. Which is why people tend to marry those most like themselves: same religious views, poltical views, life goals, etc.

Melania and especially Ivanka have brands and images to keep up so they speak up... eventually. But their hearts could be as rotten as Trump's. They have both done things that could easily be construed as sneak disses in regards to separating families at the border: Melania with this jacket and Ivanka with her post with her son. We excuse them because there is obvious plausible deniability in the decisions they made, but I ain't rolling.
