That's the most distressing thread title I've seen in quite a while.

So, after he got shot, did he yell to the assailant, "You Really Got Me!"

Well, he got shot in the leg, so he probably didn't yell "Come Dancing"! :D

Are you serious? "Girl you really got me going, you got me so I cant sleep at night"

They are a great rock and roll band. They only have about a dozen or more albums that span 30+ years. There early stuff from the 60s is awesome.

Why is it so hard to believe someone doesn't know who this band is. They aren't the Beatles. If you're young and don't listen to rock, why is this band so significant.

Dude, you really shot me now, you shot me so that I can't walk right.

I listen to rock, but this is the only Kinks song I really know.

Lola was their biggest hit. You'd know it if you heard it.

Yes, it is hard to forget:

I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [LP version: Coca-Cola]
    See-oh-el-aye cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
    El-oh-el-aye Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
    Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
    Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said dear boy won't you come home with me
Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
    La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
    Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
    I pushed her away
    I walked to the door
    I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
    La-la-la-la Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
    La-la-la-la Lola

Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
    But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
    And so is Lola
    La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
    Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Wow, I hope he can keep dancing. :)
I think I saw them play every time they came to Houston until I moved to Austin. Anyone who hasn't seen them live and is just going on what they've heard on "oldies" stations or even their records (which are great!) have missed one of the absolute best live rock bands ever. Period.

Sorry, didnt mean to offend. I just thought since they have been around for so long that that everyone would have heard of them. Or at least come across one of their records at any music store. Even if you are young and dont listen to rock. They are significant however and earned a place in music history. I mean I dont listen to alot of things but are aware of their existence. Thats all. But I am really into music.

The Kinks were the third concert I ever saw, in 1977, at the old Music Hall next to the Sam Houston Coliseum. My older brother got 3rd row center and he took me, cuz I brought the ganj. In part of their show, they did an entire cover-to-cover version of the album "Schoolboys in Disgrace", all the songs in the order they are on the album, complete with costume changes. Saw them about 8 times since, and saw Ray Davies solo "Storyteller" concert twice, once in LA and once here in Houston. Ray is one of the greatest songwriters in music history. Give "The Kinks Kronikles", their greatest hits from 1964-1971, another listen. I did last night. Some of the Kinks most incredible songs are the ones that didn't generate a whole lot of airplay, like the song "This is Where I Belong". Outstanding stuff.

Check out: "The Kink Kontroversy" Great album
It has some really good songs on this one
A rocking version of Milk Cow Blues and the the riffs on "First Plane Home" and "Till the end of the Day" are just great!
