If you are not responsible enough to be an adult and have adult relationships, don't get married. That is indisputable.
Hi, kiddo. New here, aren't you. Just want to give you a welcome and tell you that your post, the one I quoted, is a load of crap. That is all.
There is a chain of consequences. Yes, immigrants have a great work ethic, but it comes out of desperation and survival instinct. They go to obscure areas and do low wage blue collar work that legal citizens do not want to do. But... Do their kids do the same? Are they too entitled to work blue collar? Will they get opportunity if they have to be paid legal wages? What is their aptitude like... in comparison with their expectations? Increase the quota of legal migrants.... because the US needs them. But have to stop illegal channels to do so.
You know, it occurs to me, OP (@thumbs ), if we do believe illegal immigration (which has been declining more or less for many years) is still a big problem, I think the solution is honestly in sight. The way things are going, as we burn bridges with our allies, concentrate domestic wealth beyond any healthy level, and make global horrific headlines with things like these border detention centers for kids, nobody in their right mind will want to come to America. Problem solved! I say this partially in jest, but I do think some in the administration definitely would love to decrease the desirability of people to come here at all. In that sense, they are probably accomplishing their mission, even if we undo this recent child policy.
Bob, we could also literally start burning the bridges. Well, not literally, as it would take more explosives than fire, but you get the point.
What you see as "American" doesn't matter. It isn't helping the country and it isn't helping the immigrants. It's a solution that stops the illegal flow and forces people to go through legal means to become naturalized. And congress is smart enough to know that America needs these blue collar workers. Leave corporations no choice but to hire them when they have to pay legal wages + minimal benefits. Using condoms would help their situation as well. Is anything the same as 200 years ago? Why cling to something so outdated and pointless. I don't agree with the 2nd amendment either, but I don't have the money to go up against the NRA or the violent communities that instill fear in Americans who feel they need to carry. And yes, that's all it boils down to. Humans evolve, things change, don't cling to pointless things.
I think more accurately it's what YOU see as an "American" doesn't matter, what the constitution says is an "American" or more precisely what they see as "American citizens" is what matters. Your fantasy of ripping up the constitution for essentially no valid reason is what doesn't matter, try to keep that in mind.
Apologies for my absence -- its the wedding season and these things sometimes occur out of state. But, first, Senator, divorce is a difficult time so we do forgive your forays into irrationality. That said, I am saddened by the separation of children from their parents. I just wish most of these children had better parents. They shouldn't be exposed to smugglers who often are smuggling drugs and looking to making an additional dollar by selling the to human slavers or channeling them into MS 13 "membership." Actually, the detained children may be "lucky." Everybody forgets that these "chain ink gulags" were authorized and built by none other than Barak Obama. Let that sink in for a moment. B-Bob, your hikes into hyperbole are always fun but inciteful. The solution to this mess may be by merely packing up the whole illegal family and flying them home. That would be a lot cheaper than the $740 per day that we spend on holding the children while the parents are sent elsewhere. True, they would have to cope with MS 13 or other thugs in their native countries, but, if they stay here, they could easily be turned into lives of crime and slavery. The President has called for Congress to act. Republicans have fashioned two bills for debate. Now, it is up to the Democratic Party (i.e., Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer) to participate in forging a solution rather than just "resist."
I like Israel's method. A wall. Troops on the border. Open fire on anyone trying to breach the border. It works extremely well. It's the epitome of fairness both to the citizens of Israel and to those trying to break their laws. People would be forewarned that if they try to breach our border, they're subjecting themselves to the possibility of death. Sure, Mexico would complain and raise holy hell, but they are no friend of ours anyways. Friends don't use friends as a dumping ground.
Would you -- yourself you -- shoot a 10-year-old who wants to prove he or she can scale the wall? No, e-verify enforced in all 50 states coupled with stiff fines for employers who hire -- and apartment owners who lease to -- illegals would be a less sanguine and more effective solution.
I don’t think you really want to know my answer to that question. Regarding legislation. We need the Goodlatte bill. We really do. But it looks like if we get anything it’s going to be Ryan’s turd of an amnesty. My question is, assuming that gets passed and the President signs it, can he then make e-verify mandatory via executive order? It would be better if it was in a bill, but if we don’t get it due to business-first republicans, 6 years of mandatory e-verify via executive order would be better than nothing.
I suggest you learn a dicernible skill that isn't min wage worthy so you don't have to compete with illegal immigrants in the job market. Maybe that will ease your angst.
There’s no such thing as illegal immigrants. There are illegal aliens. Immigrants is a term to describe those who respect this country enough to follow its laws and do things the right way. I have an MBA and am currently a PhD candidate. I don’t compete with illegal aliens in the workplace. I do however, have to live in the society they infest and drive the same roads they do, knowing that if they total my car, my insurance will be on the hook because they don’t carry insurance. You sound like someone who has been fortunate enough to have never been the victim of crime by someone who had absolutely no right to be in this country. May that remain the case, for your sake.
The vast majority of Americans have not been a victim of a crime from a undocumented migrant. Again, we have seen a record low in arrests at the border since 2011. To act as if we have to drastically change course to the point of spending signficantly more money on criminally prosecuting every border crossers is not only unpragmatic but trying to solve an issue using drastic means that has been tredkng down towards all time lows. Just curious now. PhD candidate in what field?
I would make that case that all Americans are victims of their illegal entry at a societal level, but I understand what you’re saying. My doctoral field of study is Systems Engineering. My MBA was in Aviation Management.
Thanks! Appreciate it. Actually my B.S was in general studies. I had 12 years of experience in aerospace without a degree which gave me a foundation in engineering. By the time I started finally getting serious about education (mid-30’s) I was just looking for the fastest avenue to complete my undergrad so I could get started on my MBA.
Buck, we could also dredge the Rio Grande so an artificial valley 100+ feet deep is created. The resultant raging river would be impossible to ford and, as a bonus, the river could be harnessed as a source of electricity. BTW, the bridges could be the type that is raised and lowered like navigable riverways. Tada!
Actually, I'm all about getting the Rio Grande back to the normal flow. Too many people on both sides of the border siphon off too much water (going way up into New Mexico as well). If you want to see what the Valley will look like soon, look at the Colorado flowing into the Sea of Cortez Gulf of California. The river doesn't even reach the sea. It's destroyed whole communities, and it will happen here in Texas if people don't get their **** together. These things are more important to me than silly little walls, and I know your priorities are different.
