SOFT penalty. Walker's arm went up but that was an obvious flop. Manu Ginobli would've been proud.

EDIT: to be followed up with Kane literally being form tackled in the box and no call made.

England could easily be up 5-1 right now. At some point, Tunisia will fall over.

Insane that Tunisia are tied with England right now. All the luck left the other African teams and went straight to Tunisia.
They are far and away the worst African team at the tournament and yet they are the only one to score so far. (other than Mor. own goal).

Some inconsistent refereeing as well as England should be up 2-1 at least with a penalty on the foul on Harry Kane off a corner kick. Same foul that the ref in the VAR room for this match....called when he was the ref on the pitch for Nigeria-Croatia. Can't let players bear hug another to the ground.

90 minutes of stout defense from Tunisia and then they leave Harry Kane unmarked on the back post just before the end. I was getting a little excited to see the English newspapers tomorrow if they'd drew 1-1.

Japan surprises Colombia and wins 2-1. Still think the Colombians will advance but this group is unpredictable. Could be a nailbiter on the last matchday.

German TV has René Higuita in the studio. Fn legend...

Japan looked like they were hanging on for dear life toward the end and it was fun to see them get the upset. You're correct that the group is now wide open; that'll be a really fun third match day. In fact, with so many lackluster performances from top teams, this opening round should have one of the more exciting finishes in recent memory.

How are we feeling about Egypt today, y'all? Salah has to play doesn't he?

Deliver or go home for Egypt against confident Russians, so if he's somewhat able to go, they will at least bring him off the bench. Just can't eliminate the thought that there's no way he plays and they just brought him to the World Cup to distract the opponents.

I hate it when teams go into a defensive shell with a one goal lead... particularly when it isn't even halftime yet.
