Referees no doubt are in complete control of the games, give star treatment to the stars, have their own personal bias and agendas, and make obvious make up calls, no question... But, if this REALLY is just a glorified WWE, why would you, or any of us for that matter, follow this so passionately and attentively? Is it just that we choose to knowingly drink the koolaid, are in denial, are just too pot committed at this point to stop watching or what? Serious question btw.
Context. PG is a needle mover for Houston if you only give up EG. He's a natural fit and would fit in beautifully in place of Ariza. PG is not a needle mover in a sense where a star like Lebron says I'll go play with PG to compete with GS. LA would have to dump the kids for a third player and Lebron has to have faith that they will make it happen.
It will sting more. Remember the narrative of “Championship or LBJ”, it was actually debated in a few threads. Now, no championship and likely no LBJ......it’s going to be an epic meltdown
You want his "salary slot" for trade matching purposes. At worst, the Rockets could re-arrange the deck chairs and trade Anderson's 2 year deal for someone that has a 1 year deal. But the Rockets need Anderson's salary slot.
Sports provide a suitable distraction from our boring/stressful lives. Otherwise why invest so much emotion into players and teams who don’t know we exist lol
Imagine being an OKC fan, pouring your soul into your team, spending time on a message board F5ing hoping to hear some tidbit about George wanting to stay only to see that douchey video of him talking about loving Lebron and LA.
It's like when you're spouse is worth $800 million and you know they're cheating on you and you look the other way bc the marriage is mostly good and umm the money. As a fan we see the league cheat, but we look the other way bc the league is "mostly" good and we may not get millions- but we get to be entertained by million dollar talent and so yeah.
It’s just a hard market to get guys to go to. Who the hell wants to live in Oklahoma if you have other options lol
Yeah, I mean we can be crestfallen about not getting LeBron or PG. But this team still has CP+Harden. OKC loses PG and they are stuck as is. At least they still have Melo. #StayMe7o
I totally get that sports are, when really boiled down, simply entertainment and a distraction. Like watching movies for example, you have the your stars and you see them on the big screen, the Oscars are the Finals, etc. But, I think there's a bit of tribalism as well that transcends all that. A sense of community and comradery that these athletes represent and the cities that they play for that can't be ignored. See Green, Gerald.
We live vicariously through these athletes in much the same way ancient cultures would live through their war heros. I do agree with the tribalism aspect of it.
