Stop with all the panic. Is Chris Paul going to be in Houston? Appears so. Is Chris Paul best friends with LeBron? Yes. Does LeBron want to play him? Yes Does LeBron want to win rings? Yes Does LeBron hate the warriors? Yes Does LeBron want to play with IQ guys? Yes Does LeBron want to play off the ball more? Yes These aren’t speculations, these are things he has said. On TV. If CP3 leaves, ok sure. But he If stays, LeBron is going to definitely give us a real shot.
I'll say this. If Lebron and PG13 go to LA and they are in talks for trading for another player like CJ I don't offer CP3 the contract. I also don't bring back Capela if it's for more than 4yrs/$65 million. I commit to a reload in 2019-20 when Green/Klay and Durant hit free agency. You keep our picks to make taking 1 year of Anderson season to move and the team will have another max slot to go after someone. Harden will only be 31 then and will still be great.
Morey will not, and should not, waste 2-3 years of Harden's prime by blowing up a team that was essentially 1 game away from a championship. You think Durant and Klay are going to want to come join a 31 year old Harden on what will likely be a mid-40's win team?
It's only one season and it's not about bringing in Warriors. Its about the vacuum the warriors will leave after one of them leaves. Did he force a trade when we got Anderson and Gordon 2 years ago. It's just one season.
This. Thanks for posting this. Was going to say something similar. All the rumors and media has everyone forgetting some basics here. If he truly wants more rings we have as good of a shot as anyone else if not more. If his angle is otherwise then sure but nothing he’s said indicates that championships aren’t his #1 priority.
Yeah, I think there's certainly a very good chance he picks the Lakers, but with all the talk about potential, assuming other stars (Paul George) sign, and "well, we'll just make trades and totally be a super-team!", there's just as much potential for it to misfire in some way. The Lakers front office these days isn't exactly amazing. With pro athletes, especially the best ones, a lot always comes down to ego and Lebron going anywhere but Houston or, hell, maybe Boston strikes me mostly as an ego move no matter how it's spun.
Can’t think of one instance where a contending team punted an entire season for future free agents where it ended up working out, and even if I’m forgetting a time where it did, that is surely an incredible outlier. Simply not a reasonable move for Morey to make and very much a "Clutchfans Offseason" type proposal.
The world champion Dallas Mavericks tore a team down with the intent to be players in the next free agency period
I'm going to assume Lebron goes to the Lakers. He wants more to do with how the team is constructed rather than just straight joining a team, which is what he can do on the Lakers. Also, the whole friendship angle with CP3 is overrated. Wade didn't even know Lebron was leaving Miami and aren't they friends?
To be fair, the Kings were an elite team for a good chunk of the 00's. The Mavs for even longer. They weren't the free agent wasteland they are now. They could have had Tyson Chandler back on a reasonable deal and ran it back with a couple more weapons, while Dirk was in his prime. Instead, they went and got Chris Kaman.
And that's assuming Wade wasn't just keeping a secret for his friend so he wouldn't have to take the blame for not telling Riley his mind was made up.
