I'm not so sure. I do love hustle guys, but hustle guys never never never get max contract. Green is more than that, BUT...is he a cornerstone player for someone else? Those are the players who get super max. I see Green as a great supporting player, but not the cornerstone you build your entire franchise around. That said...this is still great news!
Your viewpoint of who and who's not "worthy" of the max is irrelevant to the guys upstairs making the decisions. Someone will bite, they always do. Also, are you referring to max or supermax? I stated "max" but I'm willing to bet one or two teams get close to super max level offer.
Definitely agree that he may or may not be a cornerstone player. We really don't know because of the way the Warriors play basketball. Team oriented, etc. Yes, it's great news because I really believe someone will offer him a stupid contract.
Draymond is a killer. He can do everything and would be great on the Rockets. He took Capela out of the game because of his ability to defend the roller and ballhandler at the same time. That is insane
Not sure if this would be translatable anywhere because refs were silent on defensive 3s violation from what i understand
Yes too perfect if Draymond Green is the reason the warriors as-is disband. Let someone pay him a bunch of money then watch him fail when not surrounded by mvp's. Please someone offer him the most money possible. He’d be worth it just to teach the rest of your team how to shoot threes from the full squat position.
I agree with everything you said except this. Thompson game 6 vs thunder in 2016. Thompson game 6 vs us in 2018. He’s proved his worth. He is valuable to their perimeter defense also. Draymond and klay are both important
if im giving someone supermax, they better be an mvp caliber player year in and year out. Im not giving that to someone who just fits on a team bc of what the others around him allow him to be. he deserves a good payday like i said but in no way would i give that guy supermax. hes not that type of player to warrant that to me
This will all be worked out when the Warriors trade Klay Thompson for a young stud on a rookie deal or for future draft picks to lower the tax bill. They can live without Klay Thompson but they can't live without Draymond Green.
I agree with most of what you said, except I think that if you add Draymond (replacing Capela) to this current Rockets squad, we would beat, somewhat easily, a GSW team without him. I personally think he is the second most important piece behind Curry and is one of the most unique talents in all of the NBA.
Draymond knows the business of the NBA, and how things work. Reference his recent response to a question about Lebron possibly joining the warriors, and he acknowledged the Warriors would have to trade him to make it happen. "I think if LeBron James went to the Golden State Warriors then there would be a high possibility I won't be here" So Draymond should also know that teams won't give a 30 year old defense first player a supermax contract. Not for an undersized center. Not if they want to sign other players to win a championship. It's all a negotiation, and he's planting the seeds now to try and get as much money as he can.
Capela is the one in question for a max or significant pay raise, not PJ, hence why I made that "swap".
Green is probably the defensive player of this/his generation. Other guys that have won DPOY awards aren't as versatile as Green. Kawhi isn't going to effectively guard BIGS. DJ or Gobert aren't going to effectively guard backcourt players (see Gobert becoming useless against GSW, against Houston in the playoffs). THEN... while he's annoying as crap, Draymond is clearly an emotional leader. Obviously he's not going to have the impact of a Lebron, or Harden, or Curry overall since the game is offense first and you can build systems around them. But would i rather have Draymond over guys like: Demar, Butler, Lillard, LMA... ABSOLUTELY. YES, YES, YES. If you put Draymond on the Suns, for example, that team gets 15 more wins. Not because Draymond himself gets them there, but because of his impact on the team as a whole. I mean, it's not a coincidence that McGee became a respectable player and defender, that Durant became a much better defender, and the big one imo, that Kevin Looney became a really really solid defender both inside and out on the wing. This is the Draymond impact. He teaches them behind the scenes and holds them accountable both on the court and behind the scenes. None of this factors in his playmaking ability, which ABSOLUTELY would be lessened on other squads, but we can't just say he's only a playmaker because of who he plays with. He put up 3 years of 3-4 apg in college, as a center... IN COLLEGE. His senior year his 3.8 apg in college were just barely second to Keith Appling's 3.9. You remember Keith right? Other winners on that squad?? Brandon Wood, Branden Dawson, Derrick Nix, Adrien Payne, Austin Thorton, etc. Still were a 1 seed in the tourney, though they lost in the round of 16. The guy's a winner.
Additionally, it would not make any sense to spend your resources in both Capela and Draymond, as we would be playing small most of the time. PJ and DG would be on the court most of the time, and we would go with a cheaper contract at the center position to combat bigger teams, very similar to how GSW is operating right now.
i mean there really isn't a scenario where DG is replacing him. if DG is here with PJ, then PJ goes to the bench and the rockets find another pnr center if capela isn't here anyways this is mute anyway bc he isn't here. moving on
Deserves the max coz he's a cornerstone of the team and is what makes the engine go. But definitely not a supermax guy. Let's be honest, if you take Donkey to any other team in the NBA, he'll just be a rotation guy - a defensive specialist. He has very limited offensive skills.
