MadMax, you should check out The DaVinci Code. There's a section in there about Peter's hatred for MM and how DaVinci depicted that hatred in some of his paintings.
The DaVinci Code is a novel not a history book. It combines facts and fiction at the authors discretion (without letting you know when it was factual and when not). It is a fun read but shouldn't be quoted as factual truth.
i'd like to read it...though, i think the book has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. ultimately, it's fiction...even if based on a smattering of facts.
Confusion regarding Mary Magdalene being a prostitute came about due to the differences in translation regarding the seven demons that Jesus drove out of her. If you liked the Da Vinci Code, check out "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" or the "Passover Plot" if it is still in print.
I think I will leave this thread alone, before it breaks out into another Historical Jesus? marathon BTW I think the normalizations that I mentioned are not complete re-writes, just minor changes to put the Gosples into more of an agreement. And there is always the end of Mark ...
i didn't mean to drive you away...i just know that we talked about that before, and then i read a book by an archaeologist and an exegesiologist (no way i spelled that right!) that addressed the topic directly...the first time i had ever seen the topic addresssed anywhere other than our convesations, actually. that's all. sorry.
I understand that it's a fictional book, I just thought it was interesting. There's historical evidence that Peter didn't much care for MM, and they discuss that in the book. I simply thought it was interesting, not taking the entire thing as fact.
This article has a bunch of info on the various passages mentioning MM and argues that she could be the author of John. ________ http://www.magdalene.org/fourthgospel.htm
no book makes stronger claims about Christ as Lord than the Book of John...interesting if MM were the author.
