Honestly for me it's just merely about getting rid of Ryno's contract.

I don't thiznk we are getting Lebron or PG. I'm just being pessimistic about this. If not, I think the only major change we can make for our team is that.

Either it fails spectacularly or it doesn't. Personally, I'm operating from the mindset that we won't have PG13 or Lebron next season AND CP3 is likely to get hurt sometime in the playoffs.

I think Melo could run the 2nd unit with shooters. I'm willing to do anything to get CP3 more rest so his hamstring isn't falling off his leg by playoff time again.

Funny thing is I'm for Melo here if we strike out on PG and Lebron...but if we get either then nah.

He's too much of a black hole then.

If we get Lebron we have to realize that no one else will touch the ball with CP3/Lebron/Harden on the team. We will ISO like crazy and we need nothing but shooters on the team and Melo CAN spot up shoot but to ask it of him consistently is pretty unfair of him.

With CP3/Lebron/Harden on the team I don't think we'd have possessions to spend on his ISOs and spotting him up for corner 3s is something he doesn't want to do.

It's also too...we can't have Lebron spotting up constantly. His 3 point shooting is not much better than Melo's, you can argue it is worse. He seems to make them when it is clutch time though, for what it is worth.

I'm in the minority I am sure but id still take Melo. Even if we do not get Lebron. He is what he is. You've gotta think he'd give a lot more productivity playing with one of his best buds and being somewhere he wanted to be. Cod continued to say even after the trade OKC was not where Melo wanted to be.

We likely won't hear that he ops in until the same time that he's traded (unless he just ops in to stay which is highly unlikely).

Last year, CP3 was going to opt out, but then weeks later he opted in at the last minute and that news broke with the trade.

My prediction, quite strongly, is that Melo opts in to be traded HERE. Equally strongly is that LBJ, PG13 & KL = magical Lakers.

Lol, efficiency is 1 of the most important things in all of basketball. The 90’s has some of the ugliest basketball you’re ever gonna see. 2 bigs who couldn’t shoot on the floor at the same time was the norm in the 90’s. People evolve and come to understand the game better as time goes on. There’s nothing overrated about not overvaluing the inefficient Melo. So basically, Russ was not making PG so much worse like so many of y’all like to claim.

PG didn’t make any All-NBA teams his last season with the Pacers either. PG has only made All-NBA 3 times, and all 3 times it was on the 3rd Team. PG isn’t some superstar who’s guaranteed a spot on an All-NBA team. He’s on the outside looking in or barely making 1 of the final spots every year. OKC didn’t get swept in the 1st round. A big reason why they lost to Utah is because they were playing a huge net negative in Melo 32 mpg. That’s 32 minutes of atrocious offense and horrific defense.

PG wasn’t creating everything for himself in Indiana, he got many open and spot up looks there too. If he got more open looks with Westbrook, then that further goes against your own point that Russ was making him worse...

Like u said, 35% is average. It’s nothing special. He’s a career 31% 3 point shooter in the playoffs. This playoffs, he shot a blistering 21%. Yeah, we were begging for him thinking he would be spot up/Olympic Melo. That was clearly a mistake. Lol, what you’re describing OKC did with Melo is exactly what we wanted him to do here. We wanted him to spot up from three and be #OlympicMelo. Nobody wanted Melo here to watch him do his inefficient ISO routine alongside CP3 and Harden.

Melo does not want to come off the bench. Even if he did come here and accept a bench role, how long do u think he’ll be happy with that? Melo is selfish. Melo is regressing offensively primarily because he’s washed. You’re expecting him to have some big bounce back next season? After seeing how much he’s regressed, I don’t want him here.

Only way to get Melo is if OKC would flat out buy out his contract. Which I doubt it.

u can be better than Ryno and still not be a good or helpful player

When your boy firing them 3’s up at 21% like he did against Utah in these playoffs?

Kind of like how harden missed like 22 in a row from 3 or ariza that missed every shot game 7. Point is. Guys miss shots. Curry Durant klay harden....its a make or miss league. U want guys that aren't scared and or capable of hitting said shots it's up to the coach to see when your guy's not on just take him out the game

What about willing to come off the bench? He clearly states that as a no.

Morey isn’t dumb enough to go after him. Not sure why people on here are so dense

Because LeBron, CP3, and Melo had discussed all playing on the Rockets together if Morey could acquire Melo from the Knicks.

Again, you're going by 0.008% on his 3 point % and saying Westbrook didn't make him any worse because of that.

Never mind that Paul George was an All NBA player not all that long ago and two all-nba talents can't get you past the first round then someone is not playing up to par. It certainly wasn't Westbrook, but Westbrook's game tends to limit others game around him. Let's not now act like this is some alien or foreign idea here.

Making All NBA teams is hard and quite a feat, the fact is he made those teams and didn't come close to it being on the Thunder. Their entire team underachieved. In large part because PG13 didn't meet the expectations and Westbrook did what Westbrook does.

Nah, OKC didn't have Melo last year and still lost. I was one of the people that called out Utah winning. The main reason is Westbrook. I've watched that guy shoot his team out of games time and time again and blaming Melo on them losing is like blaming Gordon for us losing games. They already relegated the guy to a role player and now we blaming him for them losing.

No, it's not an either-or thing. Westbrook creates open shots, the issue is that he often goes into chuck mode, it usually coincides on where his stats are at the time. If he already has his 10 assists you can count on him getting more aggressive. These aren't really things that stats show but its things that plenty of people realize.

If Westbrook played unselfishly throughout the entirety of games he'd win his team a lot more games and would be all the more terrifying as well. I remember in the playoffs against us a 16-17 season he shot his team out of 2 games by himself.

Olympic Melo isn't that though, Olympic Melo is a terror only because he spreads the floor AND attacks. Olympic Melo isn't a spot up shooter and really only referred to him playing PF, which is what plenty of us wanted, to replace Ryno. Plenty of us kept saying that we wanted him to replace Ryno. That's it.

Melo ISO routine is not inefficient. In fact, it was better than Westbrooks...you can look at ISO stats here...
    https://stats.nba.com/players/isolation/?sort=PossG&dir=1&Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Regular Season

You can also see that previous years Melo has been one of the best ISO players. Me, Personally, I think this year has been an outlier. What isn't true is that he's been a bad ISO player. He hasn't, he had significantly less ISO plays and I think just going by his recent years and his current that more ISO from Melo is not a bad thing. He scores. He still scores and I doubt many players are still stopping Melo in triple threat situations.

I mean really, just look at the ISO stats man, look at this season...look at the past two...tell me with a straight face that Melo is a bad ISO player in ANY way when he consistently been one of the best ISO players outside of ONE year playing with Westbrook?

Eh, I don't think the starting thing is even that big of a deal to a smart coach. You start the guy, play him 4 mins, sit him, bring him back in the 2nd quarter. No big deal.

The thing is he's 33, I'm not sure he's regressed that much at all. He still has had big nights.

To me it's simple as his contract is better than Ryno's because he's significantly a better player than Ryno.

We can talk about his personality issues sure that's the biggest issue for him but with CP3 around I don't worry about such things. CP3 don't mind averaging 12 ppg if it means Melo gets to resurge...and really, we are judging Melo by ONE bad season.

This is how I feel about it too man.

It's about a mentality sometimes than numbers. Melo has that stubborn "I'm scoring, F what is going on right now, I'm getting 2 points."

It hurts his team sometimes but that's on the coach to pull him aside and tell him to slow down or just sit him down. Just like Kerr had to pull even Durant to the side when he went into that mode. All great scorers go into that mode. Harden goes into that mode but unfortunately, his go-to move is a step back 3. Melo's go to move is the triple threat anywhere inside the the arc...it has been pretty damn reliable for his entire career.

I’ve seen the media push this narrative that Ryno can’t be moved since they couldn’t do so last summer for Melo. But it’s not DM couldn’t, if we threw assets we could have gotten it done but DM didn’t think it was worth the price. Which isn’t why he’s in a position to move him now. He saved those assets last summer to make sure he had enough to spend this summer.
