    Another Melo thread!

Rehashing old arguments today sent me down the rabbit hole of last year's Melo drama. I rediscovered this information from Ian Begley at ESPN that was re-reported elsewhere.

    http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/new...s-paul-lebron-james/zyqhgj2de47j12kmue1fytf8b

The important part here is the "eventually Lebron" would join them in Houston part of this story.

Am I crazy to think these conversations would have required one of these players taking a big pay cut? I'm VERY curious to see what happens in OKC now. Logic should dictate that Melo opts in with OKC, even if he doesn't want to be there, because he can't make that kind of money anywhere else. However, he has publicly said that money isn't an issue with his future. Is it possible that he opts out to follow Lebron to Houston if that's what Lebron ultimately does?

I'll be watching closely to see if we get any news about Melo opting in/out up there in OKC over the next few weeks. I'm not a Melo fan (only ever liked him as an upgrade over Anderson) and this isn't me advocating for him.

Rockets lucked out by not getting Melo.

He's a negative asset on the floor.

It's now or never in Lebron hunt. If you can't convince him now, the ship will have sailed away.

So was I. By not playing.

MDA had to go to "something" in Game 7, but what a disaster to go to Ryan Anderson. Not that the Rockets were doing good before Ryno got in, in the third quarter, but once MDA put in Gerald Green at the 7 minute mark, the Rockets were "only" -2 in in the next three minutes. He took out Green and put in Ryno and for the next three minutes they were -12. He put Green back in for the last 90 seconds of the quarter and they were +2. Gerald Green was +10 in the game. He played 21 minutes. I get MDA wanted/needed to go deeper in his bench, but the only other 2 guys he played were Ryno and Joe Johnson for a combined 13 minutes. Surely Green could have given you 31 minutes instead of 21....?

In any case, whether it was Ryno that went in or Melo, it would have sucked. Melo sucks. He sucked for the Knicks the last few years. No one should be surprised he sucked this year... relative to impact on winning.

Was he? Ryan barely played, Melo played and hurt his team. Which one is worse?

I'm not a huge Melo fan but if we have to take a step back and look at the offense than OKC runs...it's not surprising that he wouldn't succeed given that a whole slew of other players before him couldn't be productive in that system. If LeBron and Paul wants Melo on this team, then so be it.

Yes he was. Ryan was so useless he couldn’t even get off the bench for a team that needed his only NBA level skil...shooting. Melo is a has been, but Ryan is a “never was”. They also make about the same.

As bad as Melo has been, I’d still take his contract over Ryno’s (straight up) in a heartbeat.

To be fair even PG13 played and hurt his team. I'm not going to fault Melo for playing with Russ. Russ is a black hole for teammates. If we lost Gordon and Melo agreed to play 6th man with a green light. I'm in. Melo opted in and Ryan Anderson trade works and helps both teams. Doesn't help us get LeBron but that's a long shot anyway.

words can’t describe how bad Melo was in this year’s playoffs

12 points, 6 rebounds, and 0.3 assists a game on 38/21/73 shooting splits while playing 32 mpg

he was horrific defensively as well

Melo and Ryno are just as harmful to a team except Ryno can be parked on the bench with no drama and doesn’t demand touches and shots he doesn’t deserve...Melo hurts u by being on the court, Ryno hurts u by not being able to get on the court

Melo wouldn’t have been scared to shoot. I mean if that’s your only nba skill and you are too scared to do that....why are you even on the team? Melo is a has been...sometimes they have flashback nights. Players who never were, like Anderson, have zero shot at a flashback night.

Ryan's terrible play cost him minutes which hurt our team.

    Two additional problems Ryan brings:
    1) His contract is guaranteed for a season longer so he’s essentially double the cost.
    2) He’s scared to shoot...like pump faking when open scared...and can’t have the occasional flashback night.
