I dont know how the pitch goes when accounting in the no state income tax but do yall think they Cp3 and lebron would take less than a "max" once they saw the math worked out in their salaries

No, I think what we will see happen is like what happened with Gerald this year on a larger scale.

    1. Solid vet signs for large discount
    2. Nike/Adidas/Jordan then sign that player to a shoe deal to mitigate some of this discount
    3. Vet player segues the shine they get that year for new contract on a different team
    4. Process starts again the next season

Due to his limited ability to switch on defense he is no longer a viable part of this team when playing playoff quality bball IMO. He has a place as a bit player against certain teams but that role does not justify his salary. I would love to see him find another team to play for.

any team with 3 or more star players will need some serious pay cut from everyone.. and in this case, both harden and paul would need to sacrifice some of their dough to sign a 3rd star player....who'd have to come at a discount too. That's why it's so hard to dethrone GS

When I come on this board and I say **** Im usually right. But it doesn't matter because you guys make up your minds on how things are and you stick to it. WTF would Paul George want to go to LA for? You guys did the same thing with Durant and the Wizards. He was never going there. The idea that you know exactly what Lebron, Paul and PG are thinking and where they want to go is stupid and you sound worst than those talking heads on ESPN thinking they know everything, they don't. The only reason would be the money and if its money he cares about why not stay in OKC? CP3 is getting old. Houston with or without CP3 is the prime destination for free agents. Would it be nice to keep him? yes for max? no we shouldnt because thats selling ourselves short. Harden only needs another superstars help to beat the Warriors CP3 (injury prone getting old) does not HAVE to be here.

Thank you and its why we should not be giving Paul max. Everyone has to buy in and sacrifice.

No there aren't even without CP3 last year the Rockets were the third best team in the league. SMH at you guys forgetting who we are. We had the #1 seed without CP3 in the begining of the season this year. CP3 barely showed most games during the regular season and we were still the #1 seed.

First, drop the condescending attitude. Second, your opinion isn’t worth any more or less than mine.

Furthermore, do I really have to explain to you why Paul George wants to be a Laker? He’s from Los Angeles, and he made it known during his time in Indiana that he was planning on signing with the Lakers as a free agent. That’s what prompted Indiana to trade him to OKC. Kevin Durant never went public with his desire to play for the Wizards like George did with the Lakers.

Furthermore, you are crazy if you think LeBron would seriously consider the Rockets if CP3 isn’t here. CP3 and LeBron are close friends, and the LeBron to Houston rumors started only after the Rockets acquired Paul. No CP3=no LeBron. Harden isn’t the head of the players association and while an MVP caliber player, isn’t as respected by his peers as CP3 is.

As for CP3 and the max, if the Rockets don’t give it to him, somebody else will. And don’t act like he didn’t play a major part in the Rockets winning 65 games and getting the first seed in the West, or putting the Rockets in a position to knock out the Warriors in the playoffs. Because he did. He not only provided additional scoring and playmaking, but he’s the on court leader that James Harden desperately needed. Plus, the Rockets are not going to have the cap space to sign another max player if they let CP3 walk, so it’s insanely stupid to do so.

The Rockets would not have been the number one seed without CP3. The Rockets were 42-3 in games that Capela, CP3 and Harden all played in during the regular season, and 23-14 when one of them missed a game. Considering CP3 missed 24 of those 37 games, his impact on the team’s success is undeniable. Also, CP3 played in 58 of the 82 regular season games, or roughly 70%.

As for Paul George, going to Philly to play with Embiid and Simmons or going home to the Lakers are both appealing options for him, since he’s already been on record about his desire to play in LA. I’m also not saying he shouldn’t consider a CP3-less Rockets, but in his eyes it’s not likely heads and shoulders above either LA or Philly. Now, if the Rockets have both CP3 and Harden plus himself, he likely believes they would have the firepower to beat Golden State.

With the changes to SALT deductions and the front runner for California's governor plan to increase California's lead as the poverty capital of the US by taxing it into oblivion, the tax difference could well be mammoth by this time next year.

Who do you propose the Rockets replace him with? They have no cap space, and letting CP3 walk will not give them the ability to offer a max contract to anyone. The only young asset they have to trade (Capela) is an integral part of their core and he’s a restricted free agent. They also don’t have any highly coveted draft picks. They can’t replace CP3 via trade without blowing up a team that won 65 games in the regular season and took Golden State to 7 games.

Also, from a basketball perspective, other than LeBron, nobody they could acquire would be a better basketball fit than Chris Paul. For example, swapping CP3 for Paul George would make the Rockets much worse. Such a swap leaves the Rockets with only Harden who can create for others, and nobody else on the team besides Gordon can get their own shot.

The Rockets were third best team without CP3 and lead the league as the number one seed this year when he was out. Having Paul George would not make them much worse you clearly don't know our team. PG with Westbrook is not the real PG Westbrook makes everyone look like crap. Our team is much better than you think we are not as CP3 dependent as you seem to think.
