I generally agree with you. Yes, the Heat having Wade back does not indicate that they will go after LeBron, but that is more due to the Heat’s horrible cap situation, probably up there with Detroit as being some of the worst in the league. The one thing that could interest LeBron, besides Griffin, to come over to Philly is that they have two up and coming stars, shooters like Reddick, and assets they can trade away. I don’t think Philly is completely apprehensive about working with the Cavs to do a sign and trade if LeBron really saw that he could go over there. Also Simmons is in Lebron’s agency. If he was told that LeBron is willing to fall back a bit, I know Joel and Simmons would not mind. Would it destroy the potential dynasty Philly could have by artificially adding LeBron and expediting their short term growth? Yes. But as we have seen with GSW and Durant I don’t think owners are concerned about that anymore. They just want the $$$$. But like I said even ignoring the LeBron situation Griffin is a good pick that is available today. There aren’t many experienced GMs with championship experience. I do agree he had made some bad moves (Bennett) but let’s be honest that most GMs do not have a 100% record.
I dont think you understand cap management one bit. What you just attempted to do is so wrong and impossible i dont know where to start. Please go read bimathugs article about 2018 cap. Read the whole thing. That would be a good start. Opt in and trade is the only way to get lebron. Pg wont do the same since his opt in is like 15 million less than his max. That doesnt hard cap you. Sign and trades hard cap you. Mle also hard caps you. Ww cant create enough cap space to get either. We wont be an under the cap operator. That would an incredibly stupid thing to do. Please as a starter just go read bimathugs article. You dont know enough about how this works right now to have a discussion
We are an over the cap operating team next year. We cant get DJ. its not realistically possible. Give up. If we cant get an opt in and trade star. We need to keep the team together because we are currently good enough
How much cap space would we have with Paul and Capela's holds if we traded Gordon, Anderson, and 1st round pick to Indiana for, like, a conditional 2nd round pick?
Their holds are 35 and 7 million 0 cap space. Quit focusing on cap space people we will have none.have to go other routes to acquire anyone to make us better. Its why having players with somewhat bad contracts is more important than shedding salary
If we get a commit from Lebron I fully expect CP3 to take a pay cut. And I fully expect for Fertitia to *donate* very heavily towards CP3 off the books... if you catch my drift.... If we get a commit from Lebron, everything will work out. Best believe that.
howbout they both take paycuts tilman make them his brand ambassadors and franchisees and he buys lebron's blaze pizza
Already read it, but thanks. So what math are you using to not dump Ryno and Gordon yet still acquire PG as a FA then after 7/1? OKC most likely wont cooperate and he wants a max deal. I'm well aware of the fact we will still be operating above the cap next season regardless. We have bird rights on both Paul and Capela. I wasn't aware however that we had the MLE to use this offseason or that it hard caps you, I thought that was bi-annual. I was thinking of the LLE.
You said in your post the first thing to do this offseason is clear caproom for lebron. That statement goes against everything you just said. There is no clearing cap room for lebron. Its packaging a multi team deal to match salaries in a trade. There is nothing to clear.
Also to add to my previous post, I dont think you read what I said. We have to package out gordon and anderson for lebron thats it. We can re sign everyone else. Just have to make a trade work with multiple teams. Cleveland has to shed some salary even after lebron and arent going to take anderson. We arent getting paul george unless he is willing to opt in to a 20 million dollar 1 year deal like cp3 did (25 Million) this year. Paul George can make much more next year going anywhere he wants. The only way we get pg is an opt in and trade with okc. Same thing with lebron. We will have very few options of Free Agent signings straight up. The only exception we can use and not be hard capped will be the tax payer exception of 4 something million.
I'm under the impression that we can still sign PG to a max FA contract if we unload Ryno, Gordon, maybe Nene plus picks to free up the necessary cap room. Then, since we own CP3s and Capelas bird rights, we can go over the cap to re-sign them both. Is all that not true? Also, if it's not, what incentive then would Morey have in unloading Ryno if trading for LeBron or PG become no longer options? Simply to just lower the luxury tax burden for 2018-19?
cp3 and capela still count as cap holds totalling 42 million. So no we cant. If we cant unload ryno then we will probably hang onto him to improve the team next year with his expiring deal. He will be way easier to trade next year. His contract is important for us since we operate over the cap and need moveable money to get players in a trade.
to add more.....when i mentioned cap holds above. The only way to get rid of a cap hold is to renounce rights to a player making them an unrestricted free agent. We cant make room for paul george in any way. The only way we acquire george is if he opts in with okc to agree to a trade to us. He would be leaving 15 million next year on the table. He would have to really want to come here for that to happen.
