Orlando just traded for Bateer and said they will release him soon. Is there room on the Rockets?

We have a real backup center. We're just short on power forwards.

    Position: C
    Born: 11/20/75
    Height: 6-11
    Weight: 290 lbs.

    2003-04
    Statistics
    PPG 1.1
    RPG 1.10

He's got size but hasn't really been able to do much in NBA. Think maybe bringing him here would help Yao?

Just put Alton Ford at Center. Sure he's a little short, but he can push people out of the way.

Is there a link that the Magic are going to waive Bateer? They are short of true big man and use Howard and Gooden at Center.

The Rockets are going to play Yao and Cato at C, and Cato, Taylor, and Weatherspoon at PF. There would only be room on the Rockets in the minds of Bateer fans. If Bateer was cut by the Spurs and can't get on with an EC team...he's got productivity problems.

Bateer? You can't be serious. That dude sucks.

And no. Bringing him here would not help Yao. Yao needs to help himself.

The buddy buddy atmosphere has been sliced up a bit with the Moochie trade and we don't need to create it all over again with a Yao and Bateer. But it doesn't matter, this Bateer dude is not a even a quality 3rd stringer so forget it.

Gater, I think people still remember him stuffing a number of NBA players in the Olympic Games. He is big and powerful and moved (past tense because I am unsure about the here and now) very well for a big man. It is fun to think of Yao and Bateer hollering out positioning and plays in Mandarin!:D

whats goin on? i thought we were good at center.

the problems in the middle of the lineup but we cant do much with that outside of a trade or wait till offseason. unless someone gets hurt up front, i dont think we need a third string backup center

btw, hows stanley roberts doing? still with new orleans or philly or whoever? still doing interviews about how hes better than shaq in college

Maybe we can sign him to a 10 day contract the day before we play the Lakers.

With all of the foul trouble it couldn't hurt. Especialy in the West.

What foul trouble? The Rockets are in the middle of the NBA in the teams' number of fouls committed but are dead last in the number of disqualifications. 2 DQ's for the entire season from a team that holds their opponents to less than a 40% FG%. No team has held their opponents to less than 40% shooting for an entire season since the Bill Russell Celtics of the early 60's.

Taylor, Weatherspoon and Ford can committ fouls on opposing centers just as easily as Bateer. Dice hanging from your rear-view mirror wouldn't hurt either. But do you really need them? :D

I understand no one wants the buddy buddy system that was developed with the Francis-Mobley-Mooch days but c'mon. Yao needs someone to speak with. No one can communicate better to him than Bateer who has been with him on Olympic teams prior. I think it would raise the morale of Yao very much even if Bateer never sets foot on the court.

That could very well be true. But it isn't a factor that I believe the organization feels is relevent. If it did come to that, what if Bateer should be traded a short time later from the Rockets? The MORALE OF YAO (catchy, eh? :D ) could plummet from there. Yao's just gonna have to find his way.

Bateer is the one that has foul trouble.

That said I still think he is an NBA type player, he's just never had the opportunities. I hope someone give him significant minutes.

Well the Rox did have Amaechi who never left the bench so how bad could getting Bateer be especially if he give Yao some needed lift.

I have a hard time imagining Yao and Bateer though becoming the next Cat and Franchise show.

As for having the Yao and Bateer call out plays in Mandarin. Les might as well squeeze out as much as he can get out of that Chinese market.
