Chris Paul was the only Rocket smart enough to shoot mid range

So after almost beating the most "elite" team ever assembled... you go on to create not one but TWO threads sh***ng on the teams system.

Obviously it worked well enough to get us to a game 7 against the US Olympic team. It makes sense for you to come back to this board butthurt, just as we all are.

But don't question what has worked and almost did work, had it not been for our second best player sitting out the final 2 games of the series.

IDC when you joined... this is bad fandom right here.

Other than the midrange, we also only have three guys who can attack the basket from the perimeter consistently, Harden, CP3, Gordon. I know GG can slash, but he pretty much sank into the jack the three routine. Joe can drive too, but he was next to invisible this postseason and series.

Makes me remember some of our guys from the 2008 roster. Outside of Tmac and Artest, It was Lowry, Brooks, and Wafer that can take it to the rack with decent figures.

1st half we were slashing them to the paint for layups. 2nd half Warriors adjusted just like they did in Game 6. collapse on paint. Rockets players didn't adjust. drove right into the double sometimes triple coverage. Didn't trust or use the CP3 mid range to keep the GS defense honest and open up the spacing. Harden has a stepback mid range. I'm not sure why he didn't bother using it at all.

I think Harden should have shot more midrange shots when his threes weren't falling, but that's about it. One of the main reasons we got CP3 was for the midrange game. All the rest of our players suck from midrange.

Yeah it's basically a free throw if you're wide open and spotting up from midrange...but there's a good reason why that option isn't really open. The only way to consistently get midrange jumpshots is to create it off the dribble (step back or pullup) or coming off a screen. Both of which are EXTREMELY hard to do.

Can you imagine PJ Tucker attempting a pull-up jumper? What about an Ariza cross over step back 2? Oooh Capela coming off a pin-down sounds great!

I do agree that I wish Harden stepped back in the midrange a bit more since he wasn't getting a consistent whistle when he attacked the basket but it's simply not in the arsenal of our other players.

Bingo. Cp3 that only one good enough to shoot from midrange and be efficient.

The ONLY reason the Warriors series was even close was because they toyed around and shot a pile of midrange shots. Out defense was a big factor in that. Getting us to take more midrange shots works have sent us out in 5 games.

And the fact is, the overwhelming majority of Paul's midrange game is in the paint. Which is a good shot. Even Paul now resists the 16-23 footer in search of the paint.

I think it’s Harden- imo he’s elite in midrange but obviously prefers to hit a 3 or drive. But when your entire team is 0-? In a game seven(and other times the offense struggles), he needs to lean on his midrange because it’s very under utilized (and might have kept us very close if not win game 7).

Do you want to guess how many players in the entire NBA shoot 60% from midrange?

Do you have any idea of Harden's midrange shooting percentages? Do you have any idea of any players midrange shooting percentages?

For players that attempted at least 100 midrange shots this year, only 6 players in the entire league shot over 50% from midrange.

The best Harden has ever shot from midrange is 41.1%.

Why do you think Harden is elite in midrange? In nine years in the league, his best season from midrange was 41.1%. That equates to 27% from behind the arc.

The thing about midrange especially for a guy like CP3 is that it is not only a layup for him but it also stops any type of scoring drought. When the Rockets went through their epic 0 for 27 fest, I can guarantee you that if CP3 had been out there playing, he would have taken control of the offense after it went like 0 for 5 or 0 for 6. You have a guy like that who can make those shots, it settles down the rest of the team and makes it easier for them to relax and actually start making 3s. It also makes some of those 3s really wide open.

I mean to say Chris Paul was the only one proficient enough to do so.

Video game James at it again!

I don't think the coach tells James to abandon his midrange game, he was this way in OKC too. Layups and 3s. Video Games James for better or worse. Someone needs to pound into his head it's alright to take a midrange shot every now and again.

I remember that series having several "questionable" calls/no calls too...
