Personally, its loco to want to offload Capella. He has built a real rapour with this team and is still on a learning curve! If he shows no more growth after next season and even regresses a bit , then you talk about replacing him. Finding good players in the draft and developing them is how you should build a team. Not saying you shouldn't bring in some big time players, but you should also not cast off promising players you drafted.
that hasn't been true for atleast a year now but i guess the name Deandre Jordon automatically makes him better to the average person
Humm maybe because the guy who made DJ that good is not longer there. Where is that guy?.... Oh yes here in Houston. Btw Switch Capela with DJ this year and you get similar results id not better for Houston.
disagree. DJ is no longer the defender he once was. he is absolutely terrible in space which is very important in a switch everything defense
In a perfect world, you keep Capela while still improving the team, but this is going to be difficult, because some other team will overpay and we will probably let him walk, which is going to be the best decision given the circumstances. We can probably maintain the same style of play when needing to go big with a discounted Jordan and Wright (if he comes back), although I'm not sure at the same level of efficiency as with Capela. With that said, I think ultimately, if the Rockets strike out on any of the big name free agents, they might entertain paying up for Capela and pray he continues his upward trajectory even after becoming filthy rich, as it will probably still be a trade-able asset. Then you concentrate on finding the LMM of the world and build on the team's depth. Finally, to the guy who keeps hammering that Capela didn't help against the Warriors, well, I agree, he was mostly a non-factor against them. But, he was also instrumental to get the Rockets to where they got, 65 wins and into the WCF. You can't discredit that. And if CP3 would not have gotten injured, the Rockets probably would've made it to the finals, where Capela's presence would've helped tremendously. The Warriors are a unique matchup, but the Rockets, if they would've been healthy, were already constructed to absolutely HAVE ENOUGH to beat them. Too bad CP3 and LMM, two of the biggest additions to combat their death lineup got hurt at the most inopportune time.
But he is actually a better defender vs physicality, something that old Nene needed to play to save Capela every time he was getting own in the paint. Even vs GSW warrior we saw Capela being move out of offensive rebounds by smaller players just by being thin, and for all his great switching, had could play very little because he was ineffective offensively and the superiority on the boards vs GSW was non existing, Tucker was doing a way better job than him, one of the reason we are no longer playing. Is not worth getting suck with a Max contract for years for a defensive center.
the physicality issue is one of the worst angles talked about around here. this post is just false. Just stop with these old narratives. the only reasons the rockets are no longer playing is cp3 got hurt and the officiating. thats it. if you're actually trying to blame CC then you have no clue what defense GS was playing and his role
You can easily replace Lobs, Dunks, and Blocks with DJ if he comes cheaper.. a better rebounder.. then you able to sell high on Clint for a top pick..
I absolutely love Capela as much as anyone here, but if it means landing Lebron and we can add Deandre..have to let Clint go.
Bro I saw the games, he was outplay at the center position by Tucker. he got plenty of offensive rebounds that was there to grab and just lost it. Yes, yes he still not strong and gas out quick, was all year, but his p&r offense and defense cover for that. Vs GS that offense got neutered by Green and the switching defense and his advantage was on the boards and was not strong enough. While Tucker actually did 10x better than him. Again Capela is not worth the max over a lot of years. If he is taking a paycut yes, max, hell no. You can get an athletic big and another important player for that price without locking yourself for years in a bad contract.
Clint isn't going to get max. What I would do is offer Clint a 3 year deal at 11 mil, 11 mil, then 30 mil. Just offset the freed up money from Rynos contract year 3 into Capela.
doesn't matter if he was outplayed by tucker or not. GS plays small more than any other team in the league. thats just the way it is. Hou just matches up better with Tuck at the 5 but that doesn't take away from Capela as a C. thats literally the only team in the league where you could probably say a true center wont be playing their usual minutes. Unless you're an AD type. why do you keep bringing up max. it doesn't really have anything to do with with what were discussing
Dude. I just looked at the box score for the game. The bench shot one 3 pointer. It is safe to assume that when Capela was sitting they probably only had one of Thompson/Durant/Curry out there, along with Livingston and Young. So you are saying that when Capela played against the starters that the Warriors hit a ton of 3's. I guess so genius.
Capela is only going to get better and better. Can we say the same for Jordan?? Plus I can see Capela being a 70% FT shooter in another year or two, something you can't say about Jordan.
