OU beat the Tigers of Princeton last night in basketball....so of course that means they'll beat the Tigers tonight...
Straight Up 1. Myself: 19-6 2. Mduke/Desert Scar/Tozai: 14-11 Vs the Spread 1. Desert Scar: 16-9 2. Myself: 15-10 3. MDuke: 13-12 I was off by a game the 1st time, but these should be accurate. You may want to double check though.
This was shameless, I admit, but this is one I have to celebrate. I have some new comments at the end. Couple of points: 1) 17-9 versus the spread, too bad I don't put my money where my mouth is. 2) thanks to all for the discussion. 3) For DV. a) Maybe once and for all the OU/Stoops spell on T-sips like us can be shaken. The last 2 games they were dominated like they havn't been since I have been watching Stoops OU teams, maybe next year there will be some game film to give our boys some hope (and our coaches a game plan--but that is probably too much to ask). b) here is a lessen all of us T-sips must remember when evaluating college football teams, never underestimate the ability of a Mack Brown coached football team to make the opponent and their coach look better than they really are. At the same time, Texas is usually loaded with talent, so if the players take control (Applewhite versus CU, Wash)(Texas defense almost beating OU in 01)(VY improving against KSU and NU)(versus LSU last year)--they at times can be very, very good. (3) Mduke, I want to say I think you were real balanced and on target (I think deep in your head you thought LSU would probably win). As I said in another thread OU earned my respect as much last night as any game I have seen them because of their mental toughness and ability to grind and grind when it was clear the physical match-ups were bad. LSU was a much tougher opponent than KSU, but OU kept it togther when little was working there way. Much props to Clayton, Strait and White--even though the last guy is overrated as a player in nothing else they all showed the were hell of gamers, we (UT) would be fortunate to have some leaders like those who would leave it all on the field and give no excuses.
I'm glad you were right and I was wrong Desert Scar. I still did a lot better at picking these games than I thought I would, so that makes me happy. 15-11 against the spread and 19-7 straight up isn't bad at all. To be fair, I didn't watch enough of LSU prior to the Sugar Bowl. And I got to see plenty of OU. However, I should have known when a physical below average bama team almost upset them in tuscaloosa, that OU would have problems later on, if they matched up with superior line play. That was the warning sign, and Colorado was the other, and they play the same physical style as Bama. I really should have seen this coming. I just let OU trauma pick for me, instead of using my head like I did in the other games. Btw, I guess I should mention you might be reading my work in the near future as I am almost finished with a degree in broadcast journalism but have decided to became a newspaper or magazine sports writer instead. If not, I'll go into sports talk radio I think. But I'm virtually positive it will be print journalism. And once I get to Austin in a few weeks, I can send copies of stories I've written to those who wish to read them.
You got plenty more right than me in outright winners. I would loved to see a USC-LSU match-up. I am not so sure they wouldn't do the same thing they did to them as they did to Miss, Ark, Georgia and OU there last 4 games. Those may not be USC offenses, but they are formidable offenses crushed by LSU. Mike Williams versus Corey Webster would have been fun to watch. Hey, the one NFL game I missed last week was for the same reason (picking Cowboys over Panthers). I guess since the Arkansas game I have been comletely fatalistic about Mack and his teams, so I can assess them and their opponents pretty accurate now. Keep us in the loop with where you are off too, I'd like to keep up with your storys. I am kind of sad college football is over. With the NFL teams all being watered down do to salary constraints and free agency there is no better sport in the world to hook into than college football. Now just get that 4or 8 team playoff system/BCS tweak going and nothing will be even close.
