Okay I want to make a thread here (I am not sure if it's on the right forum, so feel free to move it to the right now, mods) getting some discussions going regarding Chinese b-ball matters with fellow English-speaking Chinese or Chinese American (I have a lot of similar discussions on Chinese BBS and I would like more with people with different prespectives and hopefully learn more things). The hottest topics lately on the Chinese b-ball circuit are of course the Xue Yu Yang NBA draft thing and the ongoing Wang Zhi Zhi saga. I think I don't need to tell the details here as I think you all know what's going on reading Chinese articles. What do you think about the situations? I am going to get my views and more Chinese b-ball infomation on later... (I need to go to bed now)
did you watch the nba draft in the 2nd round? did they show any of xue's highlights of him playing? or did they just announce his name and then the trade? what did they say about him? did they give any analysis? what topics have been brought up on chinese bbs?
Ugh... so many questions. My answers: No. No. I don't know. The CBA didn't allow Xue to go to NBA. Yes. Too many to mention.
xue is not young for the nba. but those guys say that xue is too young to adopt nba games. how reliculous they are!
Bateer Ready for Big Year "Only I know what I will achieve this year" -Bateer Mengke (210-C-75) According to an interview at Shenzhen's Venice Hotel (sina.com), Bateer admitted that his year in San Antonio "had its ups and downs," though he expects to have a big year next year. He said that he struggled with the language, culture, and level of play in the NBA, but learned a lot. He thinks his time with the Spurs will help him grow into the player that he wants to be - the best player on the national team. He is looking forward to the upcoming year with the Raptors as well. Many have said that Bateer doesn't have what it takes to be an NBA power forward. To his critics Bateer says "Only I know where my talents can take me." Look for the great eagle to turn in a strong performance next month in Harbin.
Xu is not really NBA material, imo. even if he eventually makes the Nuggets, I doubt he'll see any floor time. the next legit Chinese NBA player will be Yi Jianlian in a few years. as for Wang, nobody cares about him now. he's not that important to the Chinese NT anyway. I see his future resembling that of Ma Jian, pretty bleak. but at least, he will have enough money.
I think Xue should have joined in the NBA Summer League( or NBA camp) even though he`s good or not. And I think it is Denver Nuggets should decide not CBA that Xue stays in China.
If Xue is NBA material, he'll make the NBA after a few years of maturation in China. If he's not, he'll stay in China anyway. On the other hand, Xue has a better chance to stay in NBA in the long term if he goes to NBA as a better player. He needs to gain weight and improve all areas of his game to be NBA ready. Otherwise, as a 57th pick he'll get limited playing time in a span of one or two years, depending on the patience of his team. There's also cultural and language barrier to crack in such a short time. It might be too much for him to handle so many things so quickly. If Xue doesn't improve as fast as the team's patience wanes, he could be out of the league before he reaches his full potential with battered confidence. Aside from less dollars in Xue and his agent's pocket, I don't see this move hurts China's basketball much even if it's a miscalculated one.
"I want to go play in China and see my mother and father and play on the national team,'' he said. "Basketball is easy, but other things [politics] are very difficult. "I'm a basketball player. I'm not [political]. I worry about playing.'' http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-heatnote04dec04,0,5565963.story?coll=sfla-sports-headlines
