I wonder if this would work? HOU sends Nachbar (1.16M) and 0.5M of TE --> DET for Bob Sura (6.167M) HOU sends 6.04M of TE --> TOR for Mo. Pete. (1.64M) TOR sends L.Murray (4.5M) --> DET Yao/ Ford Cato/ Mo.Tay/ Wspoon Mo.Pete./ JJ/ Padgett Cat/ Pike/ A.Griff Steve/ Sura/ Wilks
That's all we need -- a point guard who was in the CBA just 3 years ago and is a proven distraction in the locker room. Didn't we just get rid of a CBA point guard?
Which calls to mind this question: You can get a job in Memphis that pays you considerably better than a job in San Antonio where a few of your friends live. You're from New York. Which one do you pick?
Just a thought: Francis & a future pick to Miami B. Grant, C. Butler, #1 (top 5 protected) to Houston Miami gets a young nucleus of Francis, Wade, & Odom to build around. Francis could go back to being the 1st scoring option. Houston gets a young star in Butler (granted, he's struggled this year but he's still recovering from off-season surgery), a true starting caliber PF (sorry Cato, you're still better as a backup C) capable of scoring consistently, and a solid pick. Downside: Adding another over-priced, solid-but-not-great big man to the roster. A team that already struggles offensively moving one of its better offensive players. And who in the world plays PG? Upside: Butler. I truly believe that, when healthy, Butler is in the Carmelo\Pierce mode of swingmen, he has fantastic potential. And this next draft looks to have some talented young PGs available. Once again, just a thought. I'd still rather that Francis learn to blend his unique talents into the team concept, but it's 5 years & counting now...
Wasn't Caron Butler being taught to be a Point Forward? I thought I heard that. Anyway, I'm not a fan of Butler's. He's very limited until he improves his handles and range. If we want Grant and Butler, I think another deal can be made that excludes Francis. For example, Grant and Jones for MoT, Cato, and Mobley works just fine. I surely wouldn't take on Jones or Grant UNLESS they took back both, or at least one, of our big contracts.
This trade is okay but Weatherspoon and Bradley...there's no way they can play power forward....they are worse than Cato and Taylor.
How about Lamond Murray? He just asked Toronto to trade him because he's stuck on the bench. He's a career 13 or so points per game and a pretty nice shooter...although not terribly great from long range. I'm sure he'd come cheap at this point ('Spoon + draft considerations? Boki and some?) and he's a good player to add depth. We could give him the PT he seeks, as he's a natural SF at 6-7/230. I'd love to get this guy, but I wouldn't give up the obvious Cato, Mobley or Taylor asking price. Outside of them and the 2 "untradeables" I'd happily give up some lower-echelon player(s) and draft picks for him.
I'd like to do a trade with the Magic in order to get T-Mac. Francis + Cato + Boki (or cheap expendable contract.) for T-Mac+ Hunter+ R. Strickland. Hunter's a cheaper contract that's a big body and does the exact same thing Cato does. R. Strickland is a legit starting PG. T-Mac can either play SF or SG position, depending on whether you want either JJ, or Mobley coming off the bench. It'd be... PG: Strickland/Wilkes SG: Mobley/T-Mac SF: JJ/T-Mac/Pike/A. Griff PF: MoT/Weatherspoon/Hunter C: Yao/Hunter We'd still be weak in the frontcourt position at PF (no weaker then we are now though), but we'd have a legit 25+ PPG scorer, a true PG to initiate the offense, a cheaper defensive shotbloacking and rebounding threat in Hunter, and a much stronger backcourt.
As many of you can see, I don't post offen. But when I do it's becuase I read some complete bullcrap. Many say "oooh let's trade Stevie, he don't fit in Jeff Al Bundy's system, let's trade him". Blah blah blah, Horse Crap. Give the guy time, the season hasn't even reached the all-star game yet. Some players learn and adjust quickers than other's. Steve has heart, and all he wants to do is win. He want's to finish his career with Houston. And what he wants most is a championship. Steve is a clutch mofo. We haven't even got to see him play his first playoff game, where I believe is where he will really shine. Patience people. The Rockets are still Steve's team wether you like it or not. If he were to get traded. Than i'll be damned. Im not sure if I can say that. Sorry. I predict Rockets get the 6th spot and play the T-Wolves in the first Round. A matchup of Sam Casell and Stevie will definatly make Stevie shine in the playoffs.
There's a reason why he hasn't made the playoffs and it's because he simply hasn't been good enough to even reach it. Your right it is Steve's team, but sadly since it's been Steve's team he hasn't done anything except help lead this team to the lottery. I'm getting tired of it being Steve's team and seeing the same lottery bound results.
Not big on trade threads, but.... Houston trades: Cuttino Mobley Kelvin Cato Houston receives: Charlie Ward Kurt Thomas 1st round draft pick Houston gets a nice PG in ward, good enough to start w/ Francis at 2, can also give Francis more rest on the bench. Kurt Thomas would be a nice complement for Yao, doesn't need a lot of shots, does a lot of dirty work inside, ya'll know what he can do. Also get a much needed 1st rounder. Indiana trades: Al Harrington Scot Pollard 1st round draft pick Indiana receives: Cuttino Mobley Kelvin Cato Indiana has been shopping both Harrington and Pollard. Cat is exactly what they've been looking for, a sharpshooting SG. Cato lets JO play at PF instead of C. New York trades: Charlie Ward Kurt Thomas New York receives: Al Harrington Scot Pollard New York has been looking to trade Thomas and Ward for a while, they're even considering buying out their contracts in Feb. Harrington is a young athletic SF that could play well with A. Houston and put some fans in MSG. Pollard could replace Thomas but probably used as trade bait, makes McDyess and O. Harrington even more expendable. -Gucci
Why not make another trade with the Knicks instead? Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (6.0 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 0.8 apg in 28.8 minutes) PF Maurice Taylor (11.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 27.1 minutes) Houston receives: C Michael Doleac (4.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 13.7 minutes) PG Charlie Ward (8.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.8 apg in 23.4 minutes) PF Antonio McDyess (8.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.1 apg in 23.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: +4.1 ppg, -0.4 rpg, and +4.4 apg. New York trades: C Michael Doleac (4.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 13.7 minutes) PG Charlie Ward (8.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.8 apg in 23.4 minutes) PF Antonio McDyess (8.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.1 apg in 23.7 minutes) New York receives: C Kelvin Cato (6.0 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 0.8 apg in 31 games) PF Maurice Taylor (11.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 25 games) Change in team outlook: -4.1 ppg, +0.4 rpg, and -4.4 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and New York being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and New York had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. --------- Before anyone comes and says, but Taylor and Cato have been contributing this season - yes, they have, but they will not win us a championship. This trade would help us get rid of $ 44 mio. committed salary, would free up tons of cap space and would help us start over.
Wow..sounds good. I might do it if I am CD..can Antonio play? Doleac might be decent..he can shoot. Ward would be nice even though I like Wilks. How is McDyess doing? Is Isaiah trying to trade him? Cap space! I like! I would miss Cato and Taylor though.
You're right. However, the rules state that you can't trade consecutive future #1 picks. In other words, if a team traded it's #1 pick last year, they can still trade this year's #1 pick away, because last year's pick is no longer considered a future pick. Here's the Coon's FAQ link that'll explain it a little clearer. It's explained in the last 3 paragraphs of question #70. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#70
Sane, As I'm sure others have pointed out by now, we traded away the Chicago obligation to Utah (along with another #1 pick) in the Rice trade. D*mnit! That trade still pisses me off. However, we could substitute another future pick in it's place. I'm not sure Toronto would do it, but with a #1 pick dangling out there, they might. Unfortunately, if we have accurate information about the Rice trade involving a conditional future #1 pick from us, then we've just handicapped ourselves from making any trades, by the trade deadline, that might involve us sending out draft picks, just like Chicago did with the Drew obligation. I could see Seattle doing it. As for us, I'd be hesitant to take on Bradley because of his injuries thus far. I might be more comfortable with them substituting Baxter in his place. I know that he's only 6'8" tall, but he does come in at 260lbs. & has shown some hustle on the boards. I like the acquisition of Williams/MoPete/Daniels. And now for the big but, I'd be real afraid of letting Seattle choose the center to send. James & Potapenko, each have one more year left on their current contracts, while Booth has 3 more years left. If I'm Seattle, that's the one that I'm sending you.
