18 members of Congress — all Republicans — sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, nominating Trump to receive the award for his work to "end the Korean War, denuclearize the Korean peninsula, and bring peace to the region." Here's what they wrote: "Since taking office, President Trump has worked tirelessly to apply maximum pressure on North Korea to end its illicit weapons programs and bring peace to the region. His Administration successfully united the international community, including China, to impose one of the most successful international sanctions regimes in history. The sanctions decimated the North Korean economy and have been largely credited for bringing North Korea to the negotiating table. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ate-donald-trump-nobel-peace-prize/573768002/
Even if this narrative were so, and we went on to negotiate a denuclearization of North Korea, I don't know if its appropriate to award a peace prize for winning the complete capitulation of your enemy by waging an economic war against it. Gimme a high five, I made them Koreans suffer and starve so much they had no choice but to do whatever I told them. Awesome. Since the Obama comparison will undoubtedly come to this thread, I don't think he, Obama, deserved one. I see that peace prize as an award given to the American people for seeing past race and electing him president. As President, I'm fine with him accepting the prize on behalf of the nation. The United States deserved the prize. He didn't do much of anything for it himself, except to be easily the best candidate running.
