I was pleased with Wilkes play last night. Crisp passer and pesky defender. He'll have to prove he can knock down the open shot, but he provided a nice change of pace...also ignited a bit of real teamwork!

I don't understand why he was not getting more minutes before Moochie was let go. I really likd the guy, he runs pretty good and does not dribble much. I liked the way he brings the ball and pass it fast!!! to the open guy.

Probably SF is upset with Mochie going because now this guy can really expose his deficiencies.

Maybe the Rockets were trying to showcase Moochie for a trade?

Maybe his contract made them feel obligated to play him?

Like you I just don't know for sure but it was obvious that he was just not what this team needed. More than Steve and Cat he still seemed to dribble with his head down and ignore other players on the court while dribbing away the clock.

Wilkes is a breath of fresh air to say the least.

Wilks is great at runing at the open court and dish off the ball, but what I like him the most is his defensive ability, he was guarding John Salmons last night, who's 6'7, and held him to 1 for 3 shooting. I think JVG is pleased.

From what I saw from Wilks, he seems like the guy who is going to do exactly what JVG tells him. I liked watching him bring the ball down the court and dish it out quickly, not dribble mania and throw something up, like Mooch.

How about staying compose and NOT turning the ball over when pressured by 2 defenders multiple times. He gave up the ball early when he was double teamed on the sideline and when they traped him, he waited for an open man to pass to instead of forcing a bad pass. Although he played only a few minutes so it's hard to tell what kind of player he is, for those few minutes, he seemed to be someone who won't crack under pressure. With all the trapping our guards face (because we are known to crack under these pressures), we need that kind of player.

Wilks... I wanted him in there at the beginning of the season. Its about time. He does everything we need for him to do. Works hard, team player, quick with the ball... He's only going to get better. I see a lot of Speedy Claxton in his game.

It's hard not to get excited because he is a passer but he does need to shoot a lot better.

That is true. During warmups, he made most of his 3's...he's a good shooter. He only took one shot yesterday...I'm glad he caught it and shot it without hesitation unlike Mooch occasionally. If he made it..that would have made it fantabulous!

    Yes Speedy Claxton similar!

I dunno, I've been paying attention to him from the beginning [preseason], and as much as I like him, I have to admit he's not a very sharp shooter. Maybe with so much time off being on the IR, he's been working on his shot. Hopefully he found his touch and will be able to contribute to the team.

He reminds me of Earl Boykins :) They're so small and cute :D

It was good to see! I had almost forgotten what a real Point Guard looks like! Now I know. I look forward to him getting increased playing time.

The time he gives Wilkes in the next few games will be telling. I don't judge someone by their words but rather their actions. The time Van Gundy puts someone on the court is more indicative of his true like or dislike of the player.

Whether or not Wilks is a solid rotation player at the point, the Rockets organization will eventually understand the need for a passing point guard in the post-Hakeem era.

So after a season of quality minutes off the bench with some usually repairable problems, we'll make him part of a 3-guard rotation, escalating to the point where we suggest he starts and Steve moves to the 2, then we give him a 4 year and 20M+ contract, and eventually are torn between cutting him and trading him for a former Knick?
