mp - Did you see the article today on Page 2 where Tim Brown came out and flat out said Callahan threw the entire season? I have a thread in the hangout about it.

Yeah, I read that, but I don't know if I believe it completely. And I don't know if the Raiders would've done any better had he been a more upbeat coach.

They were only three games worse than the other Super Bowl team in an arguably stronger division and certainly stronger conference (Denver and KC were both pretty good this year. In the NFC South, only Carolina was).

And we've seen teams collapse after some key injuries.

their (brief) history suggests they'll target defense and offensive linemen.

as for who they might pursue, i think a lot will depend of where they view their progress. are they playoff ready, or still a year or two a way. a guy like, for instance, champ bailey (originally drafted by casserly) makes a lot more sense if there's an urgency to win in 2004. does he make sense if you also have to pay glenn and coleman and don't expect to contend? not so sure...

let me clarify: their (brief) history suggests they'll target defense players and offensive linemen.

    1st round SHAWN ANDREWS

and for the henson pick raiders would want him or maybe chargers, we could take their pick and pick up a DT or CB. EXamples Tommie Harris, Vince Wilfork, Deangelo Hall, Strait

hate to burst your bubble, but no one's giving up a top 5 pick for henson, not when manning and the UMO QB are both available.

henson is likely a 2nd round pick for the texans.

a team like the chargers, raiders, cards, steelers, or the bills will likely give a 2nd rounder to the texans.

maybe the packers would give up there 1st rounder to houston so they teach henson up and then step in for brett favre

would teddy lehman from oklahoma be the 2nd round pick for houston?

    or rashun woods?

Houston Texans: B. This team is going to be good in a year or two. Very good. Which is kind of scary considering Indianapolis and Tennessee are already good, and Jacksonville seems to be on the right track to being good. 1st rounder Andre Johnson who has dropped off recently, which is attributed to David Carr’s injury, is a future pro-bowler. 4th round RB from LSU Domanick Davis has secured the starting RB
spot, and his success might allow the Texans to focus elsewhere in the 2004 draft. Other rookies such as LB Antwan Peek have provided the foundation for depth
that good teams need. The rookie that got left behind is Drew Henson. Apparently he can’t hit a curve ball, and will re-enter the draft. It’s too bad the Texans didn’t try harder to trade him, as they could have secured some more much needed depth for their playoff runs of 2004 and 2005.

 I've dont recall hearing any official word from the Texans so I'm skeptical of this report.

During of the games one the TV analyst suggested that the Texans should look at a Safety out of Purdue. Don't remember his name but the comment came after M Stevens got beat for a TD. So it could have been any of the games this year.

The guy he was talking about is projected to go in the third round. I remember when he made that comment too. I can't believe he didn't mention Sean Taylor.

You speak of Stuart Schweigert. He's pretty good.

Any word on whether or not Rod Davis is coming out? This guy is gonna be an all-everything linebacker some day. Ray Lewis-type, imo.

I believe he didn't mention Sean Taylor because he was still an underclassman and Schweigert is a senior.

The most likely scenario i see is us trading hensons rights as well as a 2nd rounder for a pick somewhere between 4-9 because thats where the qb less teams are, or we trade henson for a late 1st rounder to GB or Carolina

Time is running out - We only retain his rights for one year from last years draft. If not signed, he will be elgible for this years draft.

One would imageine that a key point might be right after the combine -- after teams have seen the key players in this year's draft up close and have an idea whether they can get something they want without making a move -- they'd then need some time to work out a contract before a trade, as at that point they would be under a bit of a deadline to get him signed.

shouldnt have won that pointless miami game. Would have been a guaranteed #5 pick.(taylor). INstead at #10 they will up with an average player. I think they should go after winslow at #10. I cant stand looking at freckle face anymore dropping passes and getting a free pass for being a fan favorite.

For a second year franchise, no wins are pointless. You don't want to foster a culture of losing. The difference between the 5th pick and the 10th pick is not that big, certainly not big enough to warrant your team losing the first game of the year.

As far as Winslow, why would we take a TE with our first round pick when we have both Miller and Joppru. The only way we take an offensive player in the first round is if it's an OL. If not, we'll be looking at defense.

the 10th best player in the country is average? kinda makes you wonder why the NFL has seven rounds if, after 9 picks, the talent is only average.

warren sapp, ty law, derrick brooks, eddie george, marvin harrison, ray lewis, randy moss, daunte culpepper, jevon kearse, julius peterson, shaun alexander, deuce mcallister, todd heap, dwight freeney and jeremy shockey are a small sampling of players selected between 10 and 32 since 1995.

the draft is, and always will be a crapshoot. where you pick shouldn't matter if you do your homework. the texans have the largest, most experienced scouting staff in the NFL. have faith. they've done pretty good so far.

Please! The win over miami was the 2nd most exciting moment in the history of the franchise IMO. We all know what the first one 19-10 was.

And why draft a TE? We drafted one last year who hasn't even played. Did you watch any of the games this year? I think it's safe to say the defense should be the #1 priority this year. Period.

I say don't even draft a left tackle. We can sign a veteran for that spot. Don't forget about Seth Wand who is waiting in the wings. The offense if fine. We need pass rushers and cover DB's in the worst way. Not to mention debth on the D line.

All of these needs should be addressed before we draft an offensive player IMO.
