Reports are that Isaiah is trying to move McDyess, would the Rocks have interest? He could still be a very good player if his knees hold up, and his is still in his 20s I believe. DD
thats what i was thinking too...i was about to post something about McDyess too... we think alike....
Too risky, the guy hasn't played a complete season in a long, long time. He might come w/ a big contract too, not sure. But I do think the Rockets are up to something, Wilks cannot obviously be our backup PG, JVG won't allow it. Wasn't there a thread that talked about a Barry trade?
Dice is too inurie prone and frankly he's not worth cato anymore, let alone another throw in player. i suspect the rockets will try to make a play for Ron Artest. mobley+ cato for artest and foster?.
Actually, McDyess had the one knee injury, came back to soon, and needed longer to heal it. He seems to be fine now that he has allowed the knee to get back to 100%. I wouldn't mind McDyess at all depending on how much he would cost, but I would love to have Shareef Abdur-Raheem on the Rocks.
So could Patrick Ewing. Multiple and serious leg injuries for a guy who relies on his explosiveness is pretty scary. If I'm not mistaken, he's had three surgeries on the same knee in less than 48 months. He is under 30 and could come back strong, but it's still a big risk hoping that he will be a valuable contributor for the next 5 years. I was under the impression that McDyess was not a free agent until 2005, but multiple news articles claim this is the final year of his deal. If that's the case, he should have a lot of value leading up to the deadline. I don't know why Portland wouldn't be pursuing him for Rasheed... though James Dolan would look like a complete hypocrit bashing Latrell Sprewell for character issues then bringing in 'Sheed. I still think Isiah has to trade Kurt Thomas... apparently Thomas has said he's going to opt out of his contract this summer. He could be a candidate for the Rockets with a mid-level exception this offseason. Kurt Thomas' home is Dallas ... playing with Van Gundy on a desirable team that desperately needs a PF and being a half-hour flight away from home could be a good situation for him.
Hasn't anyone learned that you can hurt yourself badly by taking those kind of risks of signing old and injuried players??? Check Mourning with the Nets. People just do not learn here!
Again Shareef does not fit JVG's defensive philosophy, plus he will play in the west and cost too much money. Shareef is never a winner and is not famous for his toughness at all. He has good stats and that's it. With a soft Yao, you don't want a player like Shareef for your PF, you need a bruiser. Unless you want to trade Yao for something else, but you won't get equal value back.
Kurt Thomas with the MLE this summer would be pretty nice! He really is the idea PF alongside Yao. Someone that is tough, mean and can rebound the ball. Additionally he can hit the midrange jumpshot and can play backup center for short stretches. He runs the floor well too. He would be a solid addition via the MLE. If we could get him this summer using the MLE and then use our TE comibed with someone else, to add another piece to the team that would be great.
I better correct myself because it looks like if Kurt Thomas does opt out, then he's a restricted free agent (if New York extends him a qualifying offer). He'd have to take the one-year offer to become an unrestrcted in 2005. MLE wouldn't be likely since I'm sure the Knicks would match that deal. I still think he could be dealt though since he would have value to a team like Dallas or Houston.
There is restricted free agency in the NBA on a very limited basis. Frist round draft choices coming off their 4th year rookie contract are restricted free agents. Veteran free agents who have been in the league 3 or fewer sesasons are restricted free agents. All other free agency is unrestricted. Thomas would be unrestricted.
kurt thomas can opt out of the last year of his contract after this season, making him an unrestricted free agent. he will because the following reasons. a) hes getting older, and wants a multi-year deal at a good price while his market value is pretty good right now. b) he does not want to be a part of a team that will go through a massive rebuilding process.
