This weekend, a bunch of my friends from college were coming in town so we decided to have a party. This had actually been in the works for almost a year now so I had been looking forward to it for a long time. I hadn't seen these people in years and we were all inseparable during college. We had some great times, more than I can even remember. Man, could I tell some stories... Anyway, I was hoping we would sit up all night and talk about old times and perhaps even rekindle some of them seeing as how this was the first time we all had been back together in years. Instead, we just sat around talking about kids until about 10:30 when everyone got tired and went home! Actually, I just listened to everyone talk about kids (since I don't have any). I knew everyone was married with kids and I love kids, but man. Being with your wild friends from college and then realizing that it will NEVER be like that again was a very eye opening experience. And a little depressing... Moral of the story? Growing up SUCKS. If you're 25 and under, put it off as long as possible.
Growing up definitely sucks. I am 42, but I will continue to behave like I am 17 until Johnny Law tells me I can't any longer!
28 and I actually look very young. I have 2 buds I hang with that are both younger than I am but I look the youngest. I'm with you RocketMan. The only thing is the laws have been trying to slow me down for quite some time... Party on!
Add Strippers. That's your only hope. Or your party needs a mission such as drinking as much alcohol as possible and then adding some strippers. All guys want to go back to their glory days. You just have to get them drunk enuff to do it.
I'm 26 but feel older. I have been married for over 7 years and have two kids (6 yo and 3 yo). I know how your friends feel.
33 with 3 kids. I havn't seen a whole football game all year. My Fantasy Football buddies think I have deserted them. It just gets that way when you have a family. I know it's hard to believe, but sleep will become more important than partying.
I'm 35 and feeling every second of it. I just don't like to stay out late anymore! When I went to school, I was much older than my fellow students, but I made friends easily. I've noticed that most of them are ramping down out of college mode. I recently had some of them stop by the house and they were gone by 11 p.m. When you work constantly, have a 80-mile round-trip commute (the price for living in the mountains north of ATL), have kids who go to school 30 miles away from your house and shuttle your brood to their extra-curricular stuff like soccer practice and piano lessons, you are quite run down at the end of the day. The holidays haven't helped, since we hosted a ton of family at our place. I'm just looking forward to these next three weeks down in Florida, where hopefully I can unwind and get my groove back.
I remember a Friday night where I could not get a single friend to go to happy hour with me. At that time, I knew it was time to get married. Life goes on, and kids ROCK !! DD
Odd thing about getting older... when you were young and wanted party, you were too broke. Now that you're older and have money, it's the last thing on your mind. At least it is for me... But man, if you're 32 and still are thinking about your college days, you may need to focus a bit. I just try to remember how broke I was and those are days I don't want to ever re-visit. Of course, I'm single with no kids, but I still find it more entertaining to figure out what my next stock or mutual fund to buy is more than what movie I'm going to watch next. Different folks, different ages, different enjoyments... nothing wrong with that.
drummer: Hey, do you guys remember that time we broke into the Delta sorority house and ran around the North Quad with all their underwear?? Man, that was cool... friend A: Yeah, my daughter did that yesterday! Little Megan was hopping around the house with her mother's bra on her head, pretending she was a rabbit! It was sooooo cute! drummer: Ummm...OK, but how about that time we set off those stinkbombs at the basketball game? Wow, that was smelly! friend B: Oh yeah, my son Billy played his first junior league basketball game last week! He was one assist away from a triple double! friend C: Wow, that's so great! My son plays football... friend B: Is he a quarterback? friend C: Yeah! friend B: My son is a quarterback, also! He has a pretty strong arm. friend C: Yeah, little Mark can throw the ball almost 50 yards now... drummer: HEY GUYS! Anybody remember that orgy we had with those cheerleaders during spring break senior year? friend A: Yeah, that was OK...hey, did anybody read that article on TV violence in Parenting Magazine last month? friend B: I read that. It really opens your eyes. You really have to keep a close eye on what your children watch on TV. They can really be influenced.....Oh my, is it 9:00 already? I was supposed to take my hypertension medication 30 minutes ago! friend C: Yeah, I should really get back to the hotel. My wife bought this really sexy number at the lingerie shop earlier today...we're gonna "try it out", if you know what I mean....now, what did I do with my Viagra.... drummer: SCREW YOU GUYS!! I'm going out to get a hooker!!
I am only 24 and it seems like everyone I know is getting married and never wants to party like people in their 20's should. I have had the same girlfriend for 4 years and have made it very clear that marriage is something I am not ready for. Either everyone else is growing up waaaaaay too fast, or I am growing up too slow... whatever the case, I always want to live by my "work hard. play hard" motto....
Man, A-Train. You pretty much nailed it. DoD, I don't walk around all day thinking of my college days. I've moved on for the most part. I just thought it would be different for one night because we were all together again. Maybe I'll just watch Old School again this weekend... Turn arooound, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified I see the ****ing look in your eye And I neeeed you nooow tonight, I ****ing need you nooow forever
32 with 3 kids (4 yr, 2yr and 1 yr). I have missed some exciting end of games because I was so tired from the kids keeping me up the night before. I have had to turn down going out with friends because I had to watch the kids. I have been to Six Flags and not gotten out of Looney Tune land. I can only play in one Fantasy Basketball league because of the extra time kids take. I have not seen a movie with out numerous kid stoppages. However, when I come home from work, I have 3 kids that run to the door yelling "Daddy's home" and it is the best day of my life. It is something that cannot be explained, only experienced. I would not rush to it, but I would never go back. Although I do wish I could recover from injuries like I did back in college. A sprained ankle keeps me out twice as long now. As an idea from the other side, get your friends out of their element for a weekend. For example camping, Vegas, fishing. When we do not have to worry what we are going back to, the old times start coming back.
