The Max a player can receive is based on two factors: 1.) Years of service 2.) Salary cap. Years of service: 1.) 0 - 6 years of service 25% of cap 2.) 7 - 9 years of service 30% of cap 3.) 10+ years of service 35% of cap The Suns could in theory offer Clint a starting salary of approximately $25.25 Million for the first year. The total contract would be higher since we would assume that it would include raises. However, I don't think the Suns can offer more than $18 million. Suns can create up to $18 million in cap space; but could also go into summer “over the cap” (updated) https://www.brightsideofthesun.com/...y-cap-space-len-payton-williams-capela-gordon If the Suns offer $18 million and Clint accepts, I think the Rockets should match. However, the Rockets could offer more than $18 million since the Rockets hold Clint's Bird rights. Comparable contracts for players that signed Max contacts or near Max contracts after their 4th year include: 1.) C.J. McCollum (4 years, 106 Million, starting at $23,962,573) 2.) Otto Porter (4 years, 105 Million, starting at $23,775,506) 3.) Steven Adams (4 years, 100 Million, starting at $22,471,910) 4.) Giannis Antetokounmpo (4 years, 100 Million, starting at $22,471,910) 5.) Rudy Gobert (4 years, 97 Million, starting at $21,974,719) 6.) Victor Oladipo (4 years, 84 Million, starting at $21,000,000 - No Raises) 7.) Gorgui Dieng (4 years, 62.8 Million, starting at $14,112,360) What is Clint worth? Clint is clearly better than Dieng (4 years 62.8 Million) and Porter (4 years 105 Million). However, C.J. McCollum, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Oladipo are light years ahead of Capella. I see Capella being on par with Steven Adams and Rudy Gobert who are getting 4 year $100 million dollar contracts. Their contracts start at around $22 million, so if the Rockets can get Clint for less than $22 million in the first year of a contract, I think you match the contract. The $18 million that the Suns can offer would be a steal considering what Adams and Gobert are getting.
lmao at people who think that Clint is easily replaceable or any athletic big can come in and do what he does...smh
Jordan isn’t a free agent unless he declines his option. Towards the end of the year he was talking about staying with the clippers long term
Good point. Plus - We can count on good veteran ringchaser (s) for next to nothing, considering we're a juggernaut now.
It happened to harden in his last season with okc during the playoffs. Think cp3 will rile up the guys
Morey has also said that max contracts can allow you to pay 'only' $30 million for a guy that is probably with $40 million. LeBron has been getting the max for years and is underpaid relative to his absolute value, which is above what a max contract would allow any GM to pay. Not saying Capela = LeBron, just pointing out that Morey has never said he's not willing to pay the max to somebody that deserves the max
rockets are stupid to give him max. I would just draft a rookie in 2nd round and let jowon train him.
A max player has to be really really special, more than just feeding off of guards. A max player needs to be dominant and be able to take over a game if needed.
It sucks in today’s nba when irrelevant teams are so desperate they will over pay players Not to say capela won’t live up to it but I don’t think he was going to get near max offers I mean I get it he’s showing a lot of good stuff out there.
