Am I the only one here who thinks the Nets are a stand-up organization for picking up Eddie Griffin? Think about it. They traded us this guy for 3 first-round picks. If they thought he was crap, then the trade was smart but ruthless on their part. They knew they were ripping us off. If, on the other hand, they thought he was genuinely a good player, then they weren't deliberately ripping us off. They thought they were getting a good deal, but not a ripoff. Usually you don't get a chance to find out what the team that traded the player really thought of him. In this case, we got that chance. We cut Griffin, and lo and behold, the Nets picked him up. Not for much -- not more than market value, which didn't rise to the level of a trade -- but it'll cost them some money, and they'll have to cut another player to make room for him. When it came time for the Nets to show whether they thought the guy they had traded to us was worth something -- even after all his crappy and even felonious behavior since the trade -- they put their money where their mouth was. They're betting that Griffin can become a solid player if he's handled properly. I think it's a bad bet. But hats off to them for making it.
Well, the Nets may simply buying insurance in case they could not sign KMart, which is very likely. And of course they also like EG's ability.
You mean potential, don't you? As someone said, potential is a bowling ball sitting in the hallway closet.
Well damn that's awful sweet Will.... I do agree though on some level....they evidently weren't knowingly ripping us off a the time. In retrospect however....
In some sick and twisted way it's a silver lining. Or some kind of fabric you can find in a thrift store.
I will be sick if I see Eddie finishing on a REAL fast break led by Kidd and thus have his FG% hover around 50%.
I'll be sick if he takes better aim at the next girlfriend and raises his shooting percentage to 50%.
Hey, if that is the case at least then we won't have to worry about him playing better for another team.
I think there is a certain ironic symmetry to Griffin ending up with the Nets. Good stuff, Will. You performing here all week?
You gotta believe Thorn's NBA headquarters office stint taught him a few things. Maybe there is an unspoken side deal to things like this, i.e. "we owe you one instead of trading"....
