First of all I apologize for starting yet another Clint Capela thread. Early this season, this thread really bugged me: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php?threads/would-you-trade-porzingis-for-capella.286220/ People were laughing off the notion that Capela was even close to Porzingis, much less better. To me it was not so clear cut. Clint had more upside and improved drastically every season. I really want to know how people's opinions on this debate have changed over the course of this season. Vote and discuss if you wish.
True. Capela does have that franchise/MVP feel. Porzingis overrated because he is the only good player on NYK.
Capela is a super system guy, which very well could be a superstar center playing next to a prime Harden. At this point, continuity and future Capela growth is what I would put my money on.
Porzinger. His talent is rare, and while Clint has been amazing, his skill is far easier to replace. Porzinger would likely play defense on the inside while playing outside on offense. This means we could find another big and have a defensive twin towers, and a 7 footer drawing the other team's big away from the defensive paint. Opportunities widen and we improve our three point shooting. Makes us even more problematic for other teams.
The gap on defense Is at least as big In Capela's direction As the gap on offensis for Porzingaz Rocket River
Porzingis is a unicorn. You know what's the problem with Unicorns? They don't exist. Clint will never have the 3 pt shooting that Porzingis has, on the bright side he is on track to have a very long and healthy career such as the big men before him like Mutumbo, Nene, Hakeem, Dwight, De Andre Jordan etc. Basically african american (Swiss?) bodies can handle the rigors of the NBA, thats why so many big men who have long careers are black. OTH Porzingis is tracking to be one major injury away from having a shortened career, we don't know if his body can handle the NBA level beating. The upside is bigger but I would rather go with Clint who we all know will be playing healthily for a very long time.
I didn't mean to act like I was calling you out for your thread, I worded that too harshly. I was more just thinking out loud that it's really hard to pick between two high caliber players when I'd like to have both of them. There isn't a wrong answer to this question, I don't think. For the record, there are multiple levels of pointlessness when talking about sports. Some Clutchfans strive to achieve very high levels. I don't think you're one of those, lol.
Clint does not have more upside than Porzingis, no way in hell. KP can shoot the three, and is decent at getting his own shot. The skills he has for a guy his size are incredible. Porzingis is an excellent rim protector, he’s 1 of the best in the league. He just needs to improve mightily on his rebounding. A Harden-Porzingis duo would be insane. The only thing giving me pause about him is injury concerns. He is also not in the best situation for a young, developing player.
Being extremely tall is no longer an advantage in this fast NBA. There's probably not a single big that can match Clint's current agility level and skill.
I don't believe in unicorns. I believe in dudes who spend time in the gym working on their game every single day like an OG. Just keep getting better and refining their game by learning from their predecessors.
I'll admit that I thought KP was a better asset than Capela, and also I didn't know Capela had all that in him. At the time, people were saying KP was a superstar in the making while nobody spoke of Capela. Even when we were winning w/ Capela, nobody wanted to give him credit. At the time, KP didn't have a season-ending injury that was caused by his own dunk, so his value was higher. And KP is so young that now I can't imagine him not injuring himself again.
If Porzingis had never gotten hurt, he would be a two way player with a terrific 3 point shot. Clint's superior athleticism wouldn't be a big factor in the Rockets system in that scenario. Clint has come a long way, but he still struggles against bigs like Steven Adams who is bigger and stronger than him. Porzingis would cause mismatches against OKC.
