My own personal picks based on their season so far: WEST: Center: Shaq-he's having a good season...not the best season in his career but it's been a good season Brad Miller-the dude is playing out of his mind right now and is quietly making Webber expendable Forwards: KG-is there any need for reasoning? Duncan-see KG Peja Stojakovic-best shooter right now Kirilenko-one of, if not THE, the most efficient player in the league Zach Randolph-quietly becoming a 20/10 guy that shoots very high %'s Guards: Marbury-shooting's been off but you can't deny that he's been doing a great job at PG Cassell-finally gets an All Star nod Manu Ginobili-what CAN'T he do? Kobe-luckily for him, the guards in the West aren't doing as great this year. Spreewell-my wild-card pick i guess EAST Centers: Ben Wallace-no explanation necessary Zydrunas Illgauskas-..well...they need a center... Forwards: Jermaine O'neal-does almost everything Vince Carter-he deserves it this time Carlos Boozer-rebounding machine Ron Artest-playing great without being too crazy Donyell Marshall-wild-card for the east Guards: Michael Redd-marksman deserves it Baron Davis-top 5 player right now McGrady-he belongs even with his team's horrendous record Paul Pierce-beantown's finest Iverson-league's leading scorer
I think some of the Mavericks have a case to be on your team. Walker is averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists Finley has similar numbers to Sprewell. Nowitzki's numbers aren't bad. Nash is still one of the best pg's in the west. One of them has to go.
Yeah, Nowitzki definitely is going to make it. Nash probablly will 2. In the east, no way Donyell Marshall is going. I do not predict Boozer will go either. Kidd definitly will go. Hes been dropping triple doubles. In the west, I dont think Giniboli will go but Zach has a good case. West: Starters(Fan vote) f-duncan,garnett c-shaq g-francis,kobe Bench: Brad Miller, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki,Andre Kirilenko, Stephon Marbury, Gary Payton? East Starters: c-wallace f-o neal, carter g-iverson,tmac Bench: Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Paul Pierce, Ron Artest, Lebron James, Jamaal Magliore?, Shareef Abdur Rahim?
If Yao and Lebron aren't elected to start by the fans they won't make the all-star team. They will play in the Rookie Soph game instead.
I see how Brad Miller would make the team rather than Ming if only 2 centers go in the west. , but y wouldnt lebron make it. i had mike redd, but i thought lebron is more of a complete package.
The only way first and second year players can make the all-star team is to be elected by the fans. If not then they play in the rookie soph game. So no Ginobli, Lebron, Carmello or Yao unless the fans select them.
is that a rule or do you just mean thats the way it usually is. i think that david stern would do anything possible to get Yao Ming in the game.
Pretty sure it's a rule. Maybe an unwritten one though. No first or second year player has been selected by the coaches since the inception of the Rookie Soph game. Even Allen Iverson who put up 23.5 ppg his rookie season wasn't selected by the coaches.
If you notice they will announce the participants in the Rookie/Soph game before the voting ends for the All-Star game. Why? I think it takes the players off the list the coaches choose from.
Tim Duncan was selected as an all-star reserve as a rookie. This was still in the days of the East rookie vs. West rookie game, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.
My picks: West: C Shaq F Duncan, KG, Peja, B. Miller, Dirk, Zach, AK47 G Bryant, Nash, Payton, Cassell, Francis East: C B. Wallace F J. O'neal, V. Carter, K. Martin, R. Artest, Abdur-Rahim G B. Davis, Iverson, J. Kidd, Mcgrady, Pierce, L. James
Randolph is quietly becoming one of the premier PF's in the league. He's a future MVP candidate. It's sad that he has received very few all star votes from the public.
any knows who's going to coach this year's all star game? i know that it goes to the coach whose team has the best record up until the break but didn't phil jackson coach last year?
It's the coach of the team with the best record except that the same coach can't do it 2 years in a row. So, if Phil Jackson last year then it is fairly certain that Adelman will be coaching the West this year. I think Randolph doesn't get many votes because he has a very bland name. If he was the same player he is now, but his name was God Shamgodd or Gene Gene the Dancing Machine he'd likely get a lot more votes. I think Yao and Lebron both have a decent shot at being picked by the coaches, though they do seem to prefer vets.
Oh crap....I don't suppose anybody could put my other post in this thread into the Vince Carter thread? D'oh!!
My picks: East: C - Ben Wallace F - Jermaine O'Neal F - Paul Pierce (I know he's listed as a G on the ballot but he can play the 3) G - Baron Davis G - Jason Kidd --------------------------- G - Tracy McGrady G - Allen Iverson G - LeBron James (yes he deserves it in the East) F - Kenyon Martin F - Vince Carter F - Ron Artest F - Shareef Abdur-Rahim (i know his teams sucks but I'm a numbers man ) * in reality the coaches will elect another center that isn't a good of player as listed above I was surprised that the East has such a good team. They are little small but have great talent at the guard positions. Honorable mentions: Stephon Marbury, Lamar Odom, Micheal Redd, Chauncey Billups, Donyell Marshall West: C - Shaquille O'Neal F- Tim Duncan F - Kevin Garnett G- Sam Cassell G - Kobe Bryant (ugh) ----------------------------------- C - Brad Miller F - Elton Brand F - Zach Randolph F - Andrei Kirilenko F - Dirk Nowitzki F - Peja Stojakovic G - Steve Francis (ugh) tough call b/n Nash and Miller as no other G is having a great season but the roster needs at least one backup G * I really noticed I'm not liking the Western Conference Guards (if Ray Allen hadn't missed so much time I would have picked him). I know this roster will never actually happen (too many Forwards) but I think these are the best players for the most part. other deserving players that don't quite cut it: Shawn Marion, Antoine Walker, Rashard Lewis, Pau Gasol, Yao Ming, Andre Miller, and Steve Nash.
make the all star team in the west. it's the all STAR team, Manu is a good role player not a star. Keep in mind he averages 13 points on 40% shooting. I'm guessing 5 boards, 4 assists? I know he has intangibles, but these number are not all star worthy. Nowitzki makes it before Kirilenko too.
Heres a good question: If Marbury is voted in by the fans (unlikely) or selected by the coaches, will be play for the East or West??
