This is just a thread to take my mind off the Rockets and focus on this city's premiere franchise. What are some of your observations and wishes for offseason needs for the Texans going into our third seaason. What free agents do you feel would help our roster, who do you feel we will draft etc.

My thoughts: As much as the defense imploded this year mostly it was result of injury; depth is what we need most on the line with 2 pro bowl caliber lineman coming back from injury. I'm thinking Bo Schobel(TCU) in the third round maybe Tubbs in the 2nd.

Many of our games could've benefitted from more playmakers in the secondary and outside linebaker spot. Although they are class individuals they haven't produced and will probably be cut this offseason, I'm speaking of Kailee Wong and Charlie Clemons.
Replacements through free agency Adewele Ogunleye(Miami)and either DJ Johnson 2nd round or DJ Williams in the first if we miss out on Sean Taylor( Probably the best athlete in the draft).

Other Fill-ins that would look good ,free agents Ted Washington on the defensive line; Terrell Buckley as an extra corner, ressigning Mack or finding a replacement short distance big back.

fantasy acquisitions: replacing Marcus Coleman with Champ Bailey and aquiring Orlando Pace.

What are your predictions or wishes for the Texans offseason realistic or otherwise.

Ogunleye and Sean Taylor would be very, very nice, but are they realistic possibilities? I think Ogunleye is very underrated, just because he plays on the same line as Jason Taylor. I would love to have him come here and help with our ailing d-line. Sean Taylor is just going to be something special.

Another great offensive pick up would be Steve Smith from Carolina. He is unrestricted and would make a deadly combo with Andre Johnson. He can return kicks also. If we fail to get him then Darrell Jackson is unrestricted as well.

He is the top offensive linemen in college. Plays for Arkansas.

    Terrell Owens?

TO and AJ could do some damage together. Both huge wideouts that are 2 of the toughest wideouts in the league to tackle. I'm dreaming though no way they bring him into town, he has alot of character flaws that they wouldnt want to touch. I think hed be great, he just wants to win, he could start something here. But the Texans wouldnt want him and I think hes a lock to go to Atlanta.

    Keshawn?

Brings more issues to the Texans than TO. And also dosent bring the talent TO does. I dont see them touching him.

    Bailey? woodson ?Taylor?

Any of these would be outstanding for the defense.

In the draft Im sure the Texans will look at 3 miami guys in big Vince, Taylor and Winslow. Im hoping for Taylor as does 90% of this board. The Secondary has been a disator as has the pass rush. But the pass rush should be alot more effective if they bring back a healthy Gary Walker.

My hopes for the Texans are to get Shawn Taylor. And also spend the majority of their draft picks on defense. And get one of the CB's in free agency. If they get some of that done they should be playoff bound

Note- Isnt Jevon Kearse a free agent? If so he should be a target

Honestly don't see Texans taking a peep at Kellen Winslow Jr, unless they're going to go old-school and play 3 TE sets...jumbo-T anyone?

My opinion is that they'll take Sean Taylor with their first pick in the draft. They'll probably pick up an OL in the later rounds & use the rest of the draft on defensive depth.

I believe they'll use free agency to upgrade the starting lineups on both sides of the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run at a starting LT & move Pitts to the LG position. The OL is the only position on the offensive side of the ball that they'll address through FA, imo.

On the defensive side, they definitely need some defensive linemen. Walker will have to redo his contract (there's no way the Texans take a cap hit of $13+ million on him). Assuming Walker restructures his contract & both, he & Payne, recover from their injuries, the Texans will only need to replace DeLoach with a new starter. Here's some DL FA's that I find intriguing:

    1) Robaire Smith (6'4" 310lbs & 26 years old) of the Titans is an UFA, & with the cap problems they have, we might be able to steal him away from them.

    2) Cornelius Griffin (UFA) of the NY Giants (6'3" 300lbs. 27y/o)
    3) Lance Legree (RFA) of the NY Giants (6'1" 300lbs. 26y/o)
    4) Willie Blade (RFA) of Dallas (6'3" 315lbs. 24y/o)
    5) Kelly Greg (RFA) of Baltimore (6'0" 310lbs. 27y/o)
    6) Rod Walker (RFA) of Green Bay (6'3" 320lbs. 27y/o)
    7) Rodney Bailey (RFA) of Pittsburgh (6'3" 300lbs. 24y/o)

    LB FA's:

    1) Julian Peterson (UFA) of San Francisco (6'3" 235lbs. 25y/o). While everyone drools over Kearse, I drool over this young man. He's an up & coming young stud. Unfortunately, SF will probably Franchise him. However, they are also in serious cap trouble.

    2) Al Wilson (UFA) of Denver (6'0" 240lbs. 26y/o)
    3) Marcus Washington (UFA) of Indianapolis (6'3" 247lbs. 26y/o)
    4) Clark Haggans (UFA) of Pittsburgh (6'3" 251lbs. 26y/o)
    5) Brandon Short (UFA) of NY Giants (6'3" 253lbs. 26y/o)
    6) Dhani Jones (UFA) of NY Giants (6'1" 240lbs. 25y/o)

    CB FA's:

    1) Champ Bailey (UFA) of Washington (6'0" 192lbs. 25y/o). No others need apply. If the Texans make one major FA acquisition this year, Champ has to be it. If we've drafted Taylor to play FS, sign Bailey & then move Coleman to SS, our starting secondary will be one of the best in the NFL. Also, Washington has several FA's coming up this & next year. They won't be able to resign all of them.

    2) Ahmed Plummer (UFA) of San Francisco (6'0" 191lbs. 27y/o)
    3) Shawn Springs (UFA) of Seattle (6'0" 204lbs. 28y/o)
    4) Charles Woodson (UFA) of Oakland (6'1" 200lbs. 27y/o)

    S FA's:

If we draft Taylor, sign Bailey, & move Coleman to SS, the FS & SS positions should be set with McCree & Brown as backups. We might need to upgrade with a better player or just add another backup though.

    1) Donovin Darius (UFA) of Jacksonville (6'1" 214 lbs. 28y/o)
    2) Keion Carpenter (UFA) of Atlanta (5'11" 205lbs. 26y/o)
    3) Deon Grant (UFA) of Carolina (6'2" 210lbs. 24y/o)
    4) Greg Wesley (UFA) of Kansas City (6'2" 206lbs. 25y/o)
    5) Adrian Wilson (UFA) of Arizona (6'3" 207lbs. 24y/o)

I intentionally left Sapp & Kearse off the lists. Imo, there are 3 major FA's (Sapp, Kearse, & Bailey) at positions of need for us. However, I believe that their price tags will be outrageous & we'll only be able to afford one of them. That one (imo) should be Champ Bailey. He's a bonafide shut down corner & getting him would allow us to move Coleman to SS. Thus, we upgrade 2 positions at once.

    Hey, you asked for wishes.:D

You just put Ahmed Plummer and Shawn Springs ahead of the CB who shut down Randy Moss earlier this season. I'm sorry but Shawn Springs is slighty above average at best, same for Plummer. Champ Bailey and Charles Woodson are in top 3 of best CBs in the league, and Woodson won't sign anywhere unless he is the highest paid CB.

And Shawn Andrews is not a better prospect than Robert Gallery, trust me.

I wasn't listing them in the order of whom I wanted (with the exception being, the ones I highlighted). I was just listing several that were going to be available at those positions. Sorry for the confusion.

How will the order go if 3-5 some odd teams all have the same record by seasons end? will the texans get jipped b/c they did lose to some good teams?!? they should get a break for having such a difficult schedule and draft high.... i personally like sean taylor...if we get champ bailey I that would be total madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bailey, glenn, taylor in the backfield????

You can also add a guy like DeAngelo Hall or Antonio Perkins in the second round to go along with Taylor and Glenn.

DeAngelo will not be there in the 2nd. He will most likely go 14-18.

There's a strict formula, which goes to 6ish criteria. I believe the next criteria is either head to head wins, or division wins. No bonus points for strength of schedule -- that's a BCS invention.
