Get the "Live from Mars" Ben Harper CD -- it's a live 2 CD set. One disc is Ben Harper solo, one disc is Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals -- FANTASTIC!!!! One of the best live albums I've ever bought.
Harper is in a different leaguie to mayer and mraz he is amazing love both the Jack Johnson cds the strokes cds are great ben folds is sensational, he knows lives a fair chunk of the year in adelaide, my town, as he married a local girl, and now has a child with her, will say Hey for you Manny next time i see him at the coffee shops on his side of town
Jack Johnson is awesome. Rodeo Clowns is one of my favorite songs ever, but it has to be the faster paced version. Jason Mraz is alright, although some of his songs I really really don't care for. Too Much Food by him is so addictive and fun, I really love it. And you people can actually tell the difference between The Strokes' songs? I'm impressed, I sure can't.
Jack Johnson is just SOOOOOOOOO laid back, it makes me sleepy. Nick Drake did that really well back in the 70's. If you like the singer/songwriter guys, check out Guster. And, as for the Strokes type stuff, I really like that band Jet. They sound like a straight-up 70's rock band.
Yea, you do that Smeg. You know that CD you made for me?? It seems like a lot of those songs are similar to ones by the artists we are talking about here - well, maybe not all of them, but they all, for the most part, seem pretty mellow. Thanks for that CD. Jeff, I ran across Jet last night, definitely on the wish list and I'll add Guster to that list, too.
AMEN!!! I've been preaching this for years now -- Guster is the best band not enough people know about. I've never met a person who didn't like Guster after a few listens. Pick up "Lost and Gone Forever" or "Keep it Together" and go from there. I got my sister hooked about six months ago -- Guster's now her favorite band, and she's got all of her friends listening too. It's upbeat, fun music.
If you like/have heard of Guster, then you have most probably heard of Dispatch and OAR, but, if not, check them out as well. I think we've stretched Manny's "to-buy" list out quite a bit.
Jet are cool yeah that cd probably does have alot of artist in that mold just completely unheard of though Manny, alot of those artist have probably never got any airplay on the US
Manny, I don't know how much Ben Folds Five material you already have but you should get as much as you can. For sure get their first 2 albums. It's too bad they broke up because you wouldn't believe seeing them live. I've seen them 3 times. They're like DMB in that they never play a song the same way twice. Lot's of open jams etc. They're also a little like the Pumpkins (not musically) in that they are so versatile. They have goofy jam songs like Underground, Song for the Dumped, and One Angry Dwarf and then they throw songs like Selfless Cold and Composed, and Cigarrete at you that will make you want to cry. I can't recommend them enough. One of my top five all time bands.
Yes, you have! Thanks alot guys - I have been writing these artists and albums down and placed them into my wishlist. BTW - I listened to a couple of sound clips of Jason Mraz and this one song called "The Remedy" is one that I have heard many times on the radio. Will definitely be picking that one up.
Both CD's are really good. Pretty laid back acoustic guitar stuff with simple instrumentation and lo-fi production. Pretty mellow dude - but good CD's for driving. Hes from Hawaii - so you kinda get an island vibe from him. I saw him live and he was ho-hum. Just kinda stood there moving back and forth like Rainman...... Have you checked out Ben Harper Manny?
IMHO I think Mraz is kinda overrated. He borrows alot of styles from Mayer to G. Love. Ive listened to the CD and it is a little too overproduced. Id save your money and just listen to his songs when they come on the radio...... My 2 cents anyways.....
