leebigez - Nothing personal this logic is pure BS. If Rice had any value, the Jazz would've turned his arse into Jamison, or SAR. And if Golden State was looking for instant capspace, they wouldn't have traded Jamison for Van Exel.
I think SAR's a better player, but maybe Jamison would fit better. However, no way in hell I deal Francis for Jamison. However, I'd probably do something like Cato + Mobley for Finley. Maybe Cato + exception for Jamison + Josh Howard. Jamison makes 4M more than Cato, a substantial amount to us. Mobley + Cato for Josh Howard, Shawn Bradley and Jamison is a deal I'd also think about.
I'd like to add to this by saying we still have a 7M trade exception and Amaechi's 2M dollar expiring contract. So if we were willing to do it, we could still do the same thing sans Griffin.
I am in Dallas for Christmas, and they say that the Mavs are actively looking for a center. Bradley is out indefinitly, and they are looking to get someone that will be a defensive presence at the center spot. Jamison is expendable to Dallas as his 6th man role shows. I think the Mavs would seriously consider it, and with our 6.5 million trade exception, we could easily consumate it. CD, if you are reading this....MAKE THE CALL !!! The Mavericks philosophy is that everyone on the floor is a threat at all times. It also is ideally that everyone can expect a pass at any time and quickly convert (the Sacramento strategy). Cato brings nothing to the table for the Mavericks in these regards - having him out there is a liability for them given their chosen style of play. If you free up a man to start doubling whoever has the ball, the Mavs' offense strategy goes to crap - it depends on everyone being a real threat.
Then how do you explain Danny Fortsan, Shawn Bradley, and Eduardo Najera? Dallas would consider it, it could not hurt. DD
I like your 2nd and 3rd ideas...1st one..I'd rather just keep Mobley and Cato. I like Josh Howard. He's good. If Mavs really want Cato, they will have to give us Josh plus JamisoN!
Yeah Jamison is awesome. He's not overrated at all. He can shoot 3's. He can pass. He's athletic. He has a very nice touch..very graceful around the basket. Very fast inside. He's quicker than most. He is smaller too..so I don't know if I would give up Cato! Cato has been the guy leading our defense in my opinion. He is like the backbone. If we really need offense...then get Jamison. I like him. I think the Mavs would like Cato..they have plenty of offense to cover for him...but Cato has been great for us some games. I still think we need offense. I'd rather get Shareef Abdur Rahim actually.
Yao still only plays 34 minutes a game, up substantially from his 29 last year, but I think he has to play around 38 to be the force we need him to be. Everyone voting yes for the trade, you do realize that John Amaechi would be our backup to Yao? John Amaechi will not cut it in the Western Conference, if we want to go anywhere. Sure Cato is a liability on offense. But he brings to the table what Ben Wallace does, although, granted, he isn't quite as dominant on the defensive end or quite as inept on the offensive end. Watching the Lakers game, he was pretty good guarding Shaq, and during the Clippers game, he was just EVERYWHERE. The only way I do this trade is if I am sure that I have locked up a good backup center, whether off of the waiver wire, in the Jamison for Cato trade itself, or in a different trade.
Then how do you explain Danny Fortsan, Shawn Bradley, and Eduardo Najera? Dallas would consider it, it could not hurt. I explain it by the fact that they don't play much. Why don't they play? See my original post. If they are going to trade Jamison, they can get someone who actually fits well in their system for him.
Then how do you explain Danny Fortsan, Shawn Bradley, and Eduardo Najera? Dallas would consider it, it could not hurt. Fortson averages 5 rebounds in 12 minutes. If they want to put a Cato out there, they already have him.
Wrong. Fortson is too small to play C, and isn't half the defensive player Cato is right now. Despite Fortson's strong rebounding numbers, the one thing everyone eneds to realize is that he's not good at anything - not even defense.
Interesting trade proposal, Dakota, but I would not do it. As others have said, losing Cato would kill us in terms of a backup C and as crazy as this sounds, we need KC because he has the toughness that Yao lacks right now. Add to the fact that Jamison is a tweener and has a terrible contract, I don't see how this deal can help us that much. I would trade Cato if we can get a bruising PF - one that will score in the low block AND rebound (something that is foreign to Mo Taylor). However, as much as I hate to say this - I don't see who we can trade to get this type of player. Plus I don't know if this ideal 4 that I am talking about is even available. Oh and I find it humorous that several people have been throwing SAR's name around - one that I mentioned last season and everyone, it seems, thought I was crazy for wanting him. I would love for us to get SAR somehow, but I do not want to trade Mobley or Cato for him, at least not now.
The thing about SAR is, I feel like he slows down his team, he's always in a lower gear. I can't imagine he'd be the answer to our fast break, spacing, or passing problems. What DON'T we get from Mo? Extra toughness, and excellent rebounding. Sar is only an improvement in the rebounding department, while being every bit as undersized as Mo. If JVG was going to let a non-bruiser, scorer to play next to Yao Ming, I think he'd have let Mo start by now. In terms of better player, SAR may be superior to Jamison. However, I think Jamison would be a better fit, especially if he can hit an open 15-footer (which I expect a MAX player can do). However, SAR makes around 27M over the next 2 seasons, while Jamison is tied up....Oh, FOREVER for the MAX alloweable.
It's about winning -- No current NBA player has been around longer or played in more games without getting in the playoffs than Shareef Abdur-Rahim. But while the Hawks reached the weekend with the worst record in the NBA, Abdur-Rahim leads the East in efficiency rating and his team in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage (49.8). "I don't take the `Woe is me' attitude -- in this or in life," Abdur-Rahim said. "You're faced with adversity, and you deal with it. I'm positive I'm going to win in this league. I'm not worried about that." But Abdur-Rahim said he would not feel right to be selected by the coaches for a second trip to the All-Star game. "It wouldn't even feel right, honestly," Abdur-Rahim said. "Success, as far as I'm concerned, is winning games. Success is not scoring points. From a statistical standpoint, those things -- I hope -- are done in the effort toward winning and not done in the effort toward anything else. If it starts to be something else other than that, then I have to examine myself and look at myself." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2323720
At first glance, this seems like a no brainer. But, Cato has been the anchor of the defense all year long. Sure he doesn't show up on the stats page, "believe me I look after every game". But Cato as big a part of our 3-man PF/C combination as is Yao. Yao, is still learning the game. And Taylor is learning the game as well "funny about Taylor, but it's true". Cato is playing his best basketball for his level of talent. Best of all, Cato is nothing but a plus while in the game. Sure he has taken a couple of bone headed 18 foot jumpers, but if he started hitting that shot, it would make him an all star the way defenses play him. But he doesn't take so many of them that you would say it hurts the team. And you guys want to trade him for Jamison!!!!! Granted I haven't seen much of Jamison, but what would happen to our interior defense without Cato? We esentially take away one of our strenght for a position that Jackson is holding his own on. From what I hear Jamison is making all the money in the Basketball World, but his impact on the game doesn't leave that big of a crater on the results. In the Mavericks system Walker has proven that he is a better player than Jamison.
