I guess it's no joke how they beat the Blazers, Jazz, and Kings all by 8 or more in the past week on the road. You really can't beat these guys now, esp. with the interior play Howard brings. Dirk is having an off night, and still Finley, Howard, Nash, and their outside shooting are all unbelievable. I didn't think the Mavs would make the playoffs before the season. Oh how I was wrong. This team might could put a scare into a lot of the top teams. I know Steve is off his game, and the Rockets defense isn't great so far, but this is certainly an impressive Dallas team. Hopefully this is where we'll be at about one year from now. Mav fans-- good luck the rest of the way. I am sure they are a bit deflated after their loss to New Jersey. This year Houston has been the 3rd best Texas team. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.
I never thought I'd see the day when the Rockets would be second fiddle to the notoriously sorry Mavs. They have a pretty good team, but I don't see them getting out of the first round. They don't have a real big man. Howard and Dirk are okay but they can't contend with the likes of the Twin Towers or Shaq or any other good big man on the top teams in the West. If the Rockets had a legit power forward, I feel the Rockets could surpass the Mavs and be big time contenders. The Rockets would also need a decent center if Hakeem leaves. ------------------
Cat, you are oh so right. I did not think too much of the Mavs before this season either, but they have jelled wonderfully. They are solid for 48 minutes at PG. Finley is near superstar status. Howard and Nowitzki are a formidable inside/outside threat. The Mavs may go deep into the playoffs, and it will not be a fluke. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
The Mavs are expecially impressive when their best players are left wide open all night, and the home team waits until the 2 minute mark in the fourth to play with any kind of intensity or desire. They deserve a lot of credit, but this was a heartless performance by the Rockets for three quarters. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. ZRB, You do know the Rockets made their run with Eduardo Najera and Obinna Ekezie in the game. ------------------
Which even further proves that the Rockets brought very little to tonight's game. They couldn't hang with the Mavs until the starters were resting. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
Wrong. The rockets made their run with one starter in the game, Mobley, and Moochie, Walt, Bull, and Cato. It doesn't prove what you said at all. All it says, is that the rockets bench could beat the mavs 3rd stringers and Nash. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited April 03, 2001).]
Then it proves that only the bench players and Mobley brought any intensity to the game. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
Can you guys imagine what Texas pro basketball will be like in 2 to 3 years? Assuming that San Antonio can stay dominant with Tim Duncan at the helm, and Dallas will only improve, along with the Rockets gelling together to form a solid playoff team. Every team in the league will dread the foreboding Texas Death Road Trip. I think it will be cool having 3 teams in our state that play so well. What other states can boast this? ------------------ "Any event, once it has occurred, can be made to appear inevitable by a competent historian." Lee Simonson
Well, after we are mathematically eliminated, I will probably root for the Mavs in the playoffs. I won't be happy or take pride in them winning anything, but a friend of mine has been a mavs fan for so long, and I am happy for him that they are doing so well. BTW, I was at the game tonight and my Mavs friend and I went down to talk to Cuban. He was really nice and shook our hands and talked to my friend before the Compaq Nazi Usher told us to leave. They are also a fun team to watch, Dirk seemed to play very well tonight, as did Juwon. They ought to be a sleeper team in the playoffs seeing as they are playing so well right now. ------------------ "You couldn't have stuck a pin up his @#! with a jackhammer. Can you BELIEVE what Dallas has been able to amass in two years?!? This ain't Donnie Nelson, either! This is about a guy who doesn't give a flying f@ck about money and is willing to bring in guys that are going to help the team! Argue, if you want, but Mark Cuban will bring a championship to Dallas in a couple of years! (And I thought Les was good!) ------------------ "I never did like that "Dr. Stupid""-Monty Burns
It took them 11 years to amass this. Where have you been? They already had the core of players (Finley, Nash, Nowitzki) before Cuban was here. Yeah, he brought in Howard, but they were playing well and on course to make the playoffs before he got there too. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." I'm just amazed at how well that Howard trade has worked out for Dallas. Looks like all he needed was a change of scenery and a different offensive philosophy (running, wide-open attack vs. half-court dominated). As far as the Rockets are concerned, maybe someone like Van Horn would blossom as Howard has if brought into the Rockets system. Something to think about. ------------------
oh man, id definitely be all for van horn. got a better opinion of him since i finished his book loose balls (really really good book by the way DEFINITELY worth going out to buy and read) hakeem said: "That wasn't the same team we beat a couple months ago. While the core of the team was in Dallas prior to Cuban's taking over the team, there is a difference in the way the team pays since Cuban took over. They play with more energy and intensity, and they finally believe that they can win. These same players with Little Ross in the owner's chair is not as good a team as they are with Cuban in the owner's chair. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
