LOL at the “could’ve gotten him much later” crowd. Says who? Mike Mayock’s official 7th round mock? Same experts who have sure fire 2nd rounders falling into the 5th and 6th? I love draft talk and rankings as much as the next guy but it’s a crapshoot at the end, and that goes for the teams making the picks as well.

Having watched Coutee quite a bit, he is a good player who fits a need. The Braxton experiment is failing and we’re in desperate need of a slot guy underneath Hopkins and Fuller. Coutee also gives us another return option which is a plus as Ervin has been a dud.

People being so negative yet they haven't seen these guys take a snap.

Watch the tape. He is perfect for the Watson offense. Rarely gets taken down by the first guy which is something the Texans sorely need.

    Draft Projection: Rounds 4-5
    NFL Comparison: John Brown

    Overview
Lanky speed merchant with an ability to take the top off of a defense as well as handle the nickel and dime action underneath. Coutee's lack of route experience and play strength could lead to a bumpy initial season, but his ability to separate both vertically and out of his breaks should make him a coveted slot target capable of adding chunk plays to an offense or return game in need of some juice.

    Strengths
    • Tremendous deep speed who devours coverage cushion with his initial push into routes
    • Warrants additional attention from safeties no matter where he lines up
    • Explosive speed can turns slants and crossing routes into long touchdowns
    • Separation comes easily for him
    • Could thrive with NFL option routes
    • Carries athletic ability into body adjustments and catches
    • Sinks into soft spots in the zone
    • Shows some focus to secure the throw when working middle
    • Has ability to add impact as returner
    • Averaged 31.5 yards per kick return in limited 2017 role with one touchdown
    Weaknesses
    • Spindly frame
    • Play strength is lacking
    • Asked to run basic routes that kept most action short
    • Called a "scheme talent" by scouts questioning his ability to make the jump to pro ball
    • Inconsistent route pace
    • Struggles to play through contact and keep his route on schedule
    • Below average on contested catches
    • Free-runner in college and has to prove he can handle physical corners as a pro
    • Not very tough
    • Disappointing with willingness to give in to tacklers on his runs after the catch

Love this pick even if it's early. I had a Keke Coutee (Lufkin represent!) thread over a year ago.

I hope Coutee pans out. Our mid/late round WR picks have been dreadful, even when noting the relatively low success rate of drafting WRs outside the first round.

As someone who watched a lot of Texas Tech football, you guys will like him. At times Keke was the whole TTU offense.

I believe he took like a 15 hour bus ride from Lufkin to Lubbock to walk on for the Red Raiders.

I like Coutee but I'm surprised St Brown is still on the board.

Might be thinking of the wrong guy, believe he had multiple scholarship offer including Tech.

Another Tech fan here. Agree with this take. He's multidimensional. Both quick and fast. Could contribute immediately in the right role...i.e. Fuller in the slot. The "toughness" and "weak" critiques are bogus and probably just people trying to fill out a draft overview...slot guys don't generally bowl people over. He's slippery.

Very true. You take the guy you have rated highest starting 4th round and up. Because if You start getting cute about it, and someone takes your guy, and your gamble may yield you nothing back. You gamble in the 1st or 2nd round, you are still likely to select a change contributing player.

Love the pick. If (a BIG if) he pans out as expected... then ladies and gentlemen, we might just have ourselves the next Keshawn Martin.

Can't believe they took him over Tyrell Crosby. Reminds me of the Ervin pick, who the shills in here also loved.

The only pick I have personal knowledge of. The Texans did good on this one. The kid is fast and elusive. Really another Will Fuller. Great kickoff/punt returner. Could be the best we have had in forever.

I think this pick makes a lot of sense with Watson.

I’ll be keeping an eye on Keke. I love skill position players. He’s going to run a few Texans out of town.

Was ehh on the pick at first but did a little research before bed.
