Chuck, if by some chance you read this before you leave, can you please respond? We have everything ready for free agency, but I think you forgot to turn on ratings, because there are no ratings on profiles or on the team pages or the free agency page. Obviously, it's impossible to do FA without ratings, so we're stuck for three weeks unless you read this in time... so please don't leave!
I'm afraid it does. Chuck is home over the holidays. He does have the game with him, but no chances to update he said, although I cannot see why. Probably a very slow connection at home, but he probably could send up the profiles from home? *Heath trying to build up some hope for himself* Anyway. The plan was to init a new season and upload everything so that we could do the offseason bits during the offse.. uh holidays. But FA can not be held without ratings/profiles being up. So we're officially stuck until sometime in January when Chuck returns to school. So why do the ratings have to be hidden anyway? *Heath makes another attempt to bring back ratings over the season* Also there was some resignings that didnt stick and other things that could be fixed, but it is possible to fix that manually. (Players mentioned earlier, pre-crash contracts that also can be added and a miscommunication between moes and Chuck that probably should give moes a chance to get back the players he lost to FA (moes thought this was taken care of). All fixable though.)
I agree with heath that moe should not have lost his free agents since he was under the impression that was going to be taken care of for him (having his FAs re-signed). Also, if any player signed a contract before the crash needs to be on their rightful team (i.e. the Expos). I have also wondered why the ratings have to be hidden. It is like it has to be some big secret to actually see the numbers for each player. The only thing it does is make everyone anticipate the initialization of new seasons - which that is important as you see how much money you have for FA, for extensions, and who retires, etc. However, I think it would be good to see them throughout the season as it would let people really track the progress of their players.
heath, is the site still linked off of your server? Just thinking, but we could still do free agency if it is. It would take a tad bit more work, but you could go under the potential free agents page and compare it to the "free agents" page, and you can pick out who remains and get their ratings from their profile pages. It's better than nothing. Of course, a few players might have a slight variance in numerical ratings, but it shouldn't be anything significant (unless they also increased in talent, and then you can judge for yourselves). Their values should be approximately the same.
I don't really need the numerical ratings to do free agency. Sure it would be great, but we could do without if we have to. Talent level tells me the rating is probably within a certain range and the way the players are listed tells you who's ratings are higher than others (to help figure out out those with unrealized potential). Oh, and what Cat said about Heath's site.
Yes it is, but it is not a complete backup - only ratings report, team salary report, team financial report and player development was saved for all the teams and transaction news for the league. Rest of the links are dead and have always been so at the backup site. Oh and for doing the FA without ratings. Fuhgetaboutit! I mean it is not only the ratings that is missing, but more importantly the profiles has also been updated without ratings, meaning we dont have the splits. And those are rather important. The only way I see us doing FA now is if we did it old style, where we bid on one player at the time, with Chuck telling us ratings/splits and the highest 3 bidders are the only teams who get their bid put in. And we dont really want to go back to that way of doing FA.
Those open bid-style drafts were much fun. One of my favorite parts of the sim back in the haven days. 18 mil for 5 years, going once, going twice. They did take forever tho.
A little late but I would like to congratulate IronMcFist and myOakland A's. They were a nice legacy to leave to the league.
Oh come on, you know it was all me with my master GM stroke, namely calling up Adam Morrissey and utilizing his .376 OPS
