Hmm. What about Pancakes board? I’m more curious about that. If he ranks high there.... Akins is a bust.
Knee Jerk......sounds like some of you on Watson and his EXIT Velocity. You don't know what the coaches see. They spent a full week with the South side at the Senior Bowl.
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jordan-akins?id=32462018-0002-5601-08d8-43b2a4ee16b1 Draft Projection: Round 7/PFA Overview Akins has decent size, but flashes with his speed and ability to challenge man coverage down the field. Akins saw 43.7 percent of his catches go for 20-plus yards this season, but he also has the necessary talent with the ball in his hands to take a short throw and turn it into a first down. Akins is a move tight end with the ability to separate and create throwing windows, but he won't offer much as a blocker. Akins has the talent to hear his name called on Day 3, but being a 26-year old rookie could hurt him somewhat. Strengths Comes off the snap low and with good forward lean Early acceleration into routes is impressive Adjusts routes to prevent extended contact with re-routers Good separation burst out of his breaks Has speed to climb quickly over the top of linebackers and challenge down the field Has speed to threaten on the third level and the wiggle to do damage after the catch underneath Was run into big hits by his quarterback and got right back up Former minor league outfielder with plus ball tracking talent Natural pass catcher who snatches away from his body Weaknesses Routes need work Fails to sell routes with aggressive fakes that move opponents Needs to get better at stacking defenders on his hip and keeping them out of the catch Inconsistent winning contested catches Will be a 26-year old rookie Flawed as a blocker Waist-bender and head-ducker Doesn't bring hands with him quickly enough into point of attack Unable to withstand power on the edge Not enough dog in his blocking to warrant true consideration as a combo tight end Sources Tell Us "That guy stood out to me at (Senior Bowl) practice. He got open against most of the players who were guarding him." - AFC area scout
This sounds like people trying to convince me when Kevin Johnson was drafted. I'm not falling for it again
http://www.espn.com/blog/houston-te...ton-texans-2018-draft-analysis-for-every-pick Round 3, No. 98 overall: Jordan Akins, TE, UCF My take: The Texans needed a blocking tight end after the retirement of C.J. Fiedorowicz, but according to coach Bill O’Brien, the value Akins “brings in the passing game is very important” to Houston. Akins caught 32 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns while starting 11 games at Central Florida. Akins has size at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, and said he feels he’s improving as a blocker. Still, his biggest contribution should in the passing game; Akins should help the unit that caught only 53 percent of its targets last season, which was the worst in the NFL. The Texans’ tight ends, who dealt with injuries all season, finished tied for last in the league with a combined two receiving touchdowns. How he fits: O’Brien and the Texans’ coaching staff got a good look at Akins while coaching him during the Senior Bowl in January and said his work ethic and ability in the passing game stood out. The Texans have two other tight ends on the roster -- Ryan Griffin and former undrafted free agent Stephen Anderson -- but Akins should compete for playing time in training camp. Adding Akins gives QB Deshaun Watson another weapon, and any time the Texans can improve his arsenal is a positive for this offense.
Very solid addition. This youngster/old man should be able to see plenty of action on Sunday's. Like O'Brien said, he will be another weapon for Watson to utilize. People go look at his game tapes before losing your minds.
Funny I posted something the other day saying the Texans take 7th round talent in the third and i was exaggerating. I forgot who called me out but shitttttt....... I called this Pick.
They got a TE for Watson, had other TE options but liked this one. If this guy can catch the ball then give it a chance before calling him a bust. Can wait till 7th round? Maybe but sometimes you go for it with gut feeling. Hope I am right
I don’t know about this guy in particular... but not really concerned about the age. If he is a solid starter for just 4 years that’s still a good value. Sure it’d be great if you got Jason Witten. But the most important thing is can he be a solid TE at all. Which I don’t know.
Agreed about the age part. If they feel he has a better shot at having an immediate impact, then I’m all for it and not going to worry about 4-5 years from now.

I have no idea if this guy pans out or not, but he has to be a hella athlete to play two sports at a high level. I’m not going to judge the team by past drafts because it’s not fair to do so with a new GM. Time will tell on all these guys. I’m not going to get over emotional because that’s just ridiculous.
