Gameboy Advance SP. It plays old Nintendo and SNES games, as well as constantly having new game titles come in with it. Plus it's portable, and can be played on TV if you buy the attachment to connect to a gamecube. It is the best console and is so addicting. Even better is it's portable.
Well in my experience, I don't care as much for the graphics as I do the games themselves, and in that regard PS2 smacks the other current gen consoles. If your big thing really is co-op though, GC may be the best at that(that is, unless you get tired of seeing the N mascot characters littered throughout the best games). I like Fatty's suggestion though. You can pick up a DC on the cheap(35 or so) as well as some great cheap ass games(5-15 bucks). The DC's power ain't that far removed from the other consoles either.
Since I've recently been playing a lot of video games with my girlfriend, I'll try to help out here. 1) PS2 - Why? Yes, the XBox is a much more powerful system, but if you are looking for a large variety of games, the PS2 can't be beat. Not only does the PS2 boast a large amount of games, you can tap into the hundreds of great PS1 games. Also, if you are looking into a systems to get your girlfriend playing often, many there are many games you can only get on the PS2. Karoke Revolutions, Dance Dance Revolution (plus all the versions for the PS1), Eye Toy (I haven't tried that one yet), Time Crisis II & III, GTA III/Vice City (no longer a PS2 exclusive), and many others. 2) Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 should be released in Jan. Other games like BG: DA: Everquest: Champions of Noroth - This game is made by the team that made BG: DA. Instead of 2 players, now you can play with up to 4 people, online or offline. Tales of Destiny II: PS1 - It's an RPG with side scrolling action battles that up to 4 people can play. Each player controls one character in battle. It's a little outdated graphics wise compared to the PS2, but it's still fun to play, and it is a cooperative game. With that said, if you are looking to play games with your girlfriend and other people, don't overlook the Gamecube. I have passed it over for a long time, but I recently got one, and it's great for multiplayer games. Super Monkey Ball 2 - 12 different mini-party games including Monkey Tennis, Monkey Golf, Monkey Billards, and Monkey Fight... It's easy to pick up and play in a short amount of time. Super Smash Brothers - 4 player fighting game without a ton of combo moves to memorize to win fights Pacman Vs. (requires a gameboy advance) - up to 3 players control ghost while one player controls pacman on the gameboy. Tons of fun if you enjoyed the original pacman. Mario Party 4/5 - These games are hit or miss, but the mini games are usually easy enough that it's a fair competition for everyone Mario Kart Double Dash - 4 player cart racing that can only be beat by the original (though it was only 2 player) Gamecube is only $99 and comes with 4 Zelda games. I know you only asked about PS2 vs XBox, but I thought I should throw that info in. I've only had my Gamecube a month, but whenever I have people over, we tend to spend more time playing it than any other system. When I'm not doing group stuff, my PS2 is what I play (ESPN NBA, Prince of Persia, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness). B
Xbox has a special right now... Buy the system and get tetris worlds and star wars clone wars and brute force free with it. Ps2 gives you a unit and says adios lol Microsoft versus sony hmmmmmmmmm I really love my Gameboy sp. I told myself i will buy a gamecube when they go down to 50 bucks hehehehehe
X-BOX games coop that I like: Brute Force - up to 4 player coop Halo - greatest non-sports game ever. Awesome 2player Coop. Halo 2 is a great reason to get X-Box if the hype is real. Wolfenstein - kill Nazis together XIII - haven't played it, but heard it sucked, but I think it's coop Merry Christmas
I don't buy the "PS2 has more games" argument, cause if its a really good game, it will be available on both platforms... or there will be a game similiar to it that is just as good. Also, most of the game selection that PS2 outnumbers Xbox in is crap. Unless you truly want American Idol, or ancient versions of Metal Gear Solid. Plus, the 'more games' argument was the marketing campaign of sega genesis (when SNES came out), and we all know how that war ended up going... In the end, if you want a system that gives you quick loading time for games, no disc read errors, more powerful graphics, a hard drive (no more memory cards), dolby digital support for every game, HD-resolution for some games, and a far more advanced online gaming system (as long as its not EA sports games)... go with Xbox. Its just cooler.
The NES is the greatest system of all time, I'm going to a Game X-Change and buying one when I get back to college. Hell yeah Mario Bros. 3.
I own a PS2. I like it, graphics are not a biggie for me. I love the game selection. I am getting a Mod Chip for my PS2 on Saturday, so I will be able to afford a lot more games.
Since SOCOM, Final Fantasy, and Madden Online are not available on XBox, I think there is no contest.
Madden 2004 is on X-box Online is coming soon... Xbox has Halo nuff said and Ninja gaiden coming soon.
woah woah woah... obviously we're starting to take this argument seriously. I honestly have no allegience to either... I like them both. I'm just tired of everybody using the "PS2 has more games" argument for every justification of a PS2. I like the poster who state that Socom, Final Fantasy, and Madden online are only on PS2... that's the type of points that should be made (thus, if anybody really LIKES those games... they'll go w/ that console). As for my list at the end, what of that is trash? The faster loading time? The HD/Dolby Digital compatibility? The more powerful system? Sorry man... I just didn't get what you were basing your comment on. ps - the genesis comment was obviously a joke... or I guess, not so obvious.
Well, I won't be as harsh as CK But he does have a point. To begin with, your 'if it was really good it'd be on both platforms' argument is, well....off. That's like saying Red Faction II (multi-platform) is better than Halo or Crash Nitro Cart (multi) is better than Mario Kart. Third party stuff (good and bad) can be found on all the systems; it is the exclusives that seperate the pack. Not too mention you only included 'both systems'...leaving out the GC and the PC as a gaming platform. But I'm guessing you only did so because of the thread title, right? In that case, the 'more games' argument stands. Luckily XBOX is moving away from that, stuff like Fable and Ninja Gaiden will beef up their exclusive list, but for the longest time they had Halo exclusive...and that was it. The 'most powerful system' doesn't mean much when you're just playing what everyone else is playing...and missing out on everything else. BTW, the XBOX is 'cooler' marketing ploy worked for MS early on; but everyone knows it's died now. Not even P. Diddy can help that at this point.
Silent Hill games are available on the X-BOX. I am not a huge fan so I am not sure if they are released at the same time, but I know I have Silent Hill 2 (got it for about $10) for my X-BOX.
Has anyone heard anything about PS3? I have heard release dates ranging from Q1 2005 through 2007. What have y'all heard? Anything?
And if you get PS2, and you don't mind or even like to hear your girl sing and like to sing yourself, Karaoke Revolution is awesome. Man is it awesome.
I personally like PS2 more, and I own both and am currently selling my XBOX on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3067624926
Wow thanks for all those info on coop games man! Thanks everyone for their help! I really appreciate it. Kim's idea--the kareoke game sounds real interesting, but do you have to buy mics or other equipment? Being Chinese, we actually like kareoke a lot, hahaha. There was this deal on Xbox at the mall today, 179 with a 30 dollar rebate. That's pretty good. Plus I asked my girlfriend and she really likes tetris. So I think I'm gonna go with that. Plus my roommate still has his PS2 and at least for this year it will be redundant for me to get one. Even though probably by next year we won't be rooming together since we're both going to grad school. I've never spent 50 bucks on a game before in my life, but I saw a demo for prince of persia sands of time (on xbox actually).... WOW! I'm tempted to buy that. Has anyone played that yet?
