I read this and had to laugh.

    SEE A DIFFERENT GAME

Cato, handed the starting job when Olajuwon was going to "miss the season" with his blood disorder, did everything possible to prove that he is not now, nor ever will be, worthy of starting at center for the Rockets. An organization that has had All-Stars like Olajuwon, Moses Malone, Ralph Sampson and Elvin Hayes patrolling the middle should have known better than to expect Cato to succeed that bloodline.

Suffice it to say they now do.

In the Rockets 90-85 loss to Phoenix, perhaps the most important game of the season, Cato did not get off the bench. Olajuwon, who had recently returned from the injured list, played 38 minutes. Cato will always be an enigma. This is a guy who writes well-received children's books, so he's not an idiot.

He's just a guy whose gene pool handed him a winning lottery ticket, and he wasted no time in cashing it.

Any chance of the Rockets dumping this guy during the off-season?

BigBad, if the Rockets could find a way to get rid of Cato, I would rejoice in the streets. Even if all of Houston had to contract crabs to do it (don't ask me why), I say go for it.

I read this article yesterday and said the same damn thing. What a sad commentary on a wasted talent. I say sit his a$$ on the bench and let him turn into a wooden Indian(No dis-respect to the Native American) or outright release him because he's got no place on this team as an under achiever. Management should suck it up on this one since their the idiots that paid him based on potential that they saw in a meaningless game!

Is it possible to fine him every time he doesnt get combined 10 boards/blocks. He worked hard to get his contract. Maybe he would work hard to hold onto the money.

    This is a good description..
though Im not sure I guet this:

He's just a guy whose gene pool handed him a winning lottery ticket, and he wasted no
    time in cashing it.

I mean, doesnt one take money for a winning lottery ticket rather than hold on to the ticket? I dont believe a lottery ticket accrues more value the long you hold on to it, does it?

unfortunately I wouldnt real know..I never won the lottery.. [IMG]

How long do we have this fool for?

Just bench him, do not require him to workout, and let him rot. Once his contract is up, nobody will want him.

Cato is on the books until 2006 at an average salary of $7 million per season.

By comparison, Cuttino is also on the books until 2006, but only at $5.1 million per season.

We're still paying freakin' Matt Malony over $2 mil a season until 2005!

Kind of sickens the stomach, doesn't it?

I would fine him 1/82 of his annual salary.

This does make me queasy. I hope we can somehow unload him......for anyone.

Do you mean we're not paying his salary or that he doesn't count against the cap? RealGM still has Maloney's contract against the cap for a few more years.

Hey! How much you're gonna fine him? He's been making and will make 7 mil per year on average. [IMG]

    I distinctly remember they bought
him and Mclean out . . .paid over 2 years
which I think either this year
or last year was the 2nd year

THEY SHOULD NOT BE ON OUR CAP now
