Ya, the old Francis that never took us to the playoffs. The old Francis got a Houston legend fired. He wasn't the only reason, just the biggest one!
Xenogears , i have a good idea. Why not have fun watching games and win at the same time. We do not have to sacfice all this talent to go to the playoffs. Infact we were one game away last year!!! It just has to be a small change.. But NO!! Van Gundy has to come in here and just screw all the players up!!!
omg!!! Its not like the rockets are doing 20x better this season. Infact they have a worse record then last years at this point. Atleast last year we won games with offense and D, not just D. Winning games with D is extremely ugly. And people have to relize this game is for entertainment purposes.
This game is about wins!!!! What is ugly is our offense. Once Steve "Gets It" we will be much better as a team with Francis as a traditional pg. I don't know if we can wait for him to "Get It". NO TEAM WILL EVER WIN A RING WITH THE OLD FRANCIS. IT HASN"T WORKED WITH IVERSON, IT HASN"T WORKED WITH STARBURY..... He might make more All-Star appearances but he will never win a championship playing like that.
The offense is so bad cause Francis dribbles most of the shot clock away each possession, so the team attempts very little FGs per game relative to other teams.
why downgrade francis to a passing pg from a really great scorer when you can try to get a decent pg and make francis a pure sg???
I kinda miss those high flying dunks he used to do and those crossovers but I just want the team to win
Just checked the stats. The Rockets are last in FGA per game at 75.1!! That's easily explained by running down the shot clock each possession with excessive dribbling, instead of making plays quickly. Dallas leads the league at 88.1 FGA per game cause they have a real PG who knows how to run an offense, not stall it.
I'm not making him a passing pg! "Get it" means one that knows when to score and when to pass. I'm thinking of a player like Isiah Thomas not Stockton! Look at Iverson, his team has not and will not win a championship. Philly has tried everything. IT JUST DOESN"T WORK!
i think it will be difficult to change steve. look at this link posted by another member http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70405
OK! What's your point? I guess you are saying JVG style is boring and that too doesn't bring championships. I do agree with it being boring! But, we definitely don't need Old Steve to make it more enjoyable. It was just as tough to watch this team last year!
SF is a great talent but unfortunately he won't fit in any team close to win a championship. A team that goes deep in the playoffs usually has 3 very good players that make each other better. In the Rocket's place we have some good players but they don't complement each other or make each other better. In our case our players get wasted. Steve Francis will only be a superstar in a lottery team. A team that can just give the ball to him all the time, make TV hightlight plays and go to the lottery every year. Maybe we should trade him to the Clippers.
This article is garbage and way off. There is so many ways in which to rip up this utter nonsense that I almost don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start from the top. "It's not the same Steve Francis this season. He's averaging a career low in points, barely above 17 despite a career average of more than 20 per game. He's also at career lows in assists, shooting and 3-point percentage." This fails to mention that he is still taking roughly the same amount of shots. Not that it matters much but it is full of fluff when it is put like this. It should say he is averaging a career worst, 39% from the field. And despite his career low in assists it fails to mention that he is still turning the ball over at a consistant rate. Thus, resulting in an even worse assist to turnover ratio. "He's hardly playing badly. He's just playing differently as he unselfishly, and without complaint, adjusts to a new style of play." It is now clearly obvious from this comment that this person has not even watched a game. Hardly playing badly? He's hardly doing anything right. All the more evident just by looking at his assist to turnover ratio. Not to mention if you just watch the game and see how he functions within a basic system. "Our percentages are better by me not being the first option," says Francis, who is an underrated team player despite his individual brilliance. "Yao has done a good job scoring. My scoring is down, but others are up. I think it's working." Typical Steve Francis fashion: ALL TALK. And WTF is up with the writers statement following the first quote from Steve; "underrated team player"??? What the hell!! That is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. Considering his point guard status, Steve is probably the worst team player in the league. "Steve Francis, left, has taken one for the team by sacrificing his personal stats for wins." "Francis is trying, but I have to admit, I miss the old Steve Francis." After these two quotes I am now wondering if Francis himself has written this trash. "sacrificing his personal stats...." His numbers are lower because he is having the worst season of his career. And that just so happens to coincide with Steve actually having to function within a system. "It seems harder now for Francis. But when some big baskets were needed down the stretch in the Rockets' Dec. 17 win over the Cavaliers and LeBron James, it was Francis, not Yao, who stood up to take them. And make them." WOW. This person is actually trying to use this!! WOW!! That's about all I can say. "Francis is one of the great and unique talents in the NBA. Even not playing at his best this season, he's still averaging about five assists and almost six rebounds per game. He can get his shot anytime he wants." Again failing to mention his turnovers and a:t ratio. And of course he can get his shot off anytime he wants, it just comes at the expense of the team! And that's the bottom line! And I am going to pretend I didn't see the Jordan reference. This is the worst article I have ever read!
If the rockets are planning to make the playoffs, the Stevie of OLD needs to stay away. I like the High-flying shots & dunks .....but we cant count on those tricks to help us make it into the playoffs.
And we can't count on the current Steve Francis either. At least the old steve was entertaining. At the end of the day, whether the Rockets win or lose, I want my team to be entertaining. This current team has no entertainment value. Let's hope that the Rockets can finish the season above .500. That's a more realistic goal.
Are you suprised? That's JVG style basketball, give the opponent the least number of shots by running down the clock, we knew this when we hired him. It's not Steve's fault, that is how JVG's offense is ran. Everyone is pissed off the we can barely score 70ppg, that we barely run, and that our entire offense is awful. NEWS TO HOUSTON: THAT IS JVG STYLE BASKETBALL, ITS THE WAY HE HAS ALWAYS COACHED, AND THAT IS THE WAY HE WILL COACH THE ROCKETS. He has always been a defense first coach. Yes, Steve hasn't been playing well lately, but don't blame all the Rockets troubles on him. We shoot poorly as a team, we lose as a team.
I was just saying if we are losing, atleast bring some highlights and glamour to the team. Ofcourse I want the team to win, that is why i for one wont write them off until the year is over. If we still dont make the playoffs then I would much rather have last years rockets *before rudy went down* than have this JVG style slowed down crappy version of the knicks. Heck if we make the playoffs and the finals I know that I would watch everygame even if it meant sitting through 45-36 halfs. Its all good, but this team isnt exactly at the top of the standings, and that is why everyone is getting a little uneasy.
