In what some may find surprising news, the Koch network is pushing an expensive ad campaign urging Congress to act on behalf of Dreamers. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/koch-n...campaign-urging-congress-to-protect-dreamers/ "The ad, "What are we waiting for," will begin airing nationally on Sunday, and features addresses from former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush promoting immigration and security." Yes, border security is part of the message too. And the Kochs are also spending $20M on a campaign to promote the "benefits" of the tax cut, etc., which you would expect. But if they help the dreamers and push for something most people want on a bipartisan basis, good.
Trump will always use this as a trade chip because it frames his bargaining ceiling, and he knows his supporters will only accept it as a maximum out of spite and principle. The flip side is that it pins Democrats to an issue unrelated to jobs and economy while bolstering opposition charges that they care more about immigration and open borders, true or not. I think they should cut it cold turkey right now and just focus on jobs and seizing the message of the unfair tax cuts just like what Republicans did for Obama's stimulus and his popular but much trashed Cash for Clunkers program. Pivoting Republican messaging toward the corporate and elite opulence of the Trump handouts while presenting a job alternative will shave Trump's comeback. Dems were looking at double digit numbers in Jan but latest poll results have seen it cut in the single digits. It's a story we've seen many times before, and single digit leads does not guarantee retaking a heavily gerrymandered house and purely red state governments (for 2020 census redistricting).
I agree; but Democrats cannot figure out messaging. I don't know if its from the big circus concept or because its a coalition of (presominantly) coastal whites and minorities, but they consistently play up the wrong issues and the GOP has gotten very, very good about baiting them (not that I blame them- its a 2 party system, why waste them governing when its easier to distract voters).
The Koch’s are ideologues above everything .... even Trump and Trumpism. The Koch ideaology is some form of Libertarian Corporatism. No taxes, no regulation, and very little if any government. Immigration is good for corporatism and always has been hence why the Reagan/Bush Republican era was very pro immigration. It creates a society of competitive workers, increases productivity, and decreases the pay companies have to pay their workers. Basic Supply and demand. Trumpism isn’t this. It’s nationalist socialism. A utopian insulated society where the leader takes care of “his people” and screw everyone else. Hence the tariffs and every other policy that Trump has a say in along with his cabinet of terrible people like Stephen Miller. Every once in awhile there is a traditional Republican policy like tax cuts and deregulation that trickles in, but that’s just not the core of Trump. In this relationship the woman likes Romantic Comedies, and the man likes Horror films. They settled on Zombieland for now but eventually both sides will want to watch what they want to watch. The Koch’s love Trump now but eventually Trump will do things more and more outside of the interest of Corporatism, and if the economy starts the struggle under Trump, watch out for the Koch brothers money which would cripple the Republican Party if it decided to go towards a third party Libertarian primarying Trump.
They’re a bunch of greedy old bastards that want the cheapest labor possible - including illegal labor. What is so surprising?
