My favorite memory of Eddie Griffin was two years ago this time. We were playing a national televised game against the Lakers. About five, six guys were injured including Mo, Steve, Kenny Thomas, and some other guys. Griffin finally got a chance to play. He dominanted against Shaq and the Lakers and almost lead us to a victory. My favorite two plays was when he did a nasty reverse jam on a fastbreak over Robert Horry (i think.) and the swat of Shaq's layup. Eddie had a string of like 10-15 solid games Eddie showed so much promise. I just wished that he had been granted the opportunity to play when he was showing his potential (rookie season). Now an opportunity blown. I feel bad that his brother died. Maybe, that depressed him some throughout his short career.
So many memories come to mind, but I'll just miss the way he camps out at the 3 point line and throw up his ugly flat screwball jumpers.
The one against LA is also my favorite. Like you I though this kid had superstar written all over him. He let us all down but I do hope he grows up for himself and gets his life straight
I loved it when we got rid of his lazy good for nothing Horry wannabee a$$ !! Good riddance punk !! DD
my favorite EG memory is the one where he hit the 3 pointer againts the bucks in crunch time. this is the game where we ended the i think it was 16 or 17 game loosing streak.
I believe it was the RMR in his rook year, when he showed some semblance of a post up game. But when the regular season rolled around, it was jump shooting time.
Draft Night when the Rockets accuired him.I thought he'd be a star for a very long time. Turns out he was a very mediocore player for a very short time. Showed a few flashes over the last couple seasons but nothing that made me think "man this guy is going to dominate" oh well I still say the trade was worth it. You gotta take risks some times they work and sometimes they dont. oh well good luck eg
The Lakers game was great, then there is one game the same season towards the end where they played Dallas and he made a 3 to go to overtime and eventually won the game. That was the game where Francis said something that they cant just jack up threes to win a game. Plus there was the Sacramento game last Feb where he scored like the first 12 pts and on ESPN's website said that the Rockets will be champions by 2006 because of the balanced scoring we had that game, i think the whole starting lineup had over 15 pts.
LOL me too I was telling Smeggy this fall how much I loved him in the NCAA. I thought he would do well this year. I have had nothing but hope for his career. damn I am bummed. I mean since I started following the Rocks, the EG trade was when I was most excited. Hell I would have taken him with the #1 pick that year More than Steve, more than Yao. Cuttino getting drafted by anyone was I guess #1, but thats when I started following the rocks. EG was #2 to Cat.
I don't have a specific game memory, but I do remember a time when he sat between Calvin and Bill for a post-game interview ... the kid was so soft-spoken and good-natured, chuckling at Cal's exuberance and shyly answering Bill's questions. I always found Eddie easy to root for ... I appreciated his laidback on-court demeanor. I'm genuinely sad that he's gone.
Oh god that's frick'n hillarious! Cut him some slack though, it's not as easy shooting a moving target. Kidding aside, I really hope he's doing better personally.
Actually, that would be my least favorite memory of EG... Did anyone see the Mark Berman interview with him last night?
