Calling all Houston anglers!

There is a park where you can fish from the banks near San Luis pass. It is called San Luis Pass County Park. They even have cabins for rentals. I believe you can wade off of their banks, but not on the "beach" portion. They also have lights at night time. Slaughtered specks and sandies there at night before.

 

22 foot skeeter bay boat. Don’t do much wade fishing in Galveston anymore. And much rather be in a boat than on a pier.

If you’re looking for good guided fishing, use Hackberry gun and reel in Louisiana. They put you on, it’s catching more than fishing

of all the places, why'd you fish at some shady ghetto area... plenty of lakes and ponds in the suburbs like katy and sugar land.

Why would you need to go 20 miles out to catch redfish?

 

Maybe he's just protecting his favorite spot. Brazoria county passed a resolution making it a crime to step into the water on the Brazoria (Freeport) side of San Luis Pass. You can still fish......but you have to do it from the bank, or risk a fine. If you want to drown like several idiots do every year, you can only do so legally from the Galveston side of the pass.

 

Huh, I had no idea. That was one of my go-to spots, especially when the flounder were running. I've been fishing down the coast the past several years so I didn't know.

I don't remember the currents being that bad, but maybe the storms have changed things?

 

It’ll run in a foot or so, I usually won’t go under 2 feet. We keep it around the jetties, in the bay. We’ll dock by fatboys sometimes. Just depends. It runs good in shallows and runs well in chop. I wouldn’t take it out too deep, but it could if you really wanted to

 

Yeah man I love that place, they treat you good and put you on some nice fish. I’ve thrown back 24” reds just to bring in a 26” lol.

I've never had any luck in Texas waters, had a ton of luck in federal waters. Maybe I just haven't ever been at the right spots in Texas waters at the right time, I dunno.

 

You are talking about red snapper; Buck is talking about red drum.

 

"Reds" = redfish, or sciaenops ocellatus if you are so inclined.

I don't know why you're telling me. I've been catching them for over forty years. Although I'll be honest, I've never seen schools of them like they see in Florida.

 

Few years ago in Louisiana, we were in the reds thick like that. You could see them hitting on top, and just rolling over each other. They were all massive too. Still one of my favorite fishing trips. It was the marsh around Lake Calcasieu.
