Alright, who you guys got to back up Capela? You go with Nene, hoping he has another 12-12 in him and contributes like last year? You go with Black who’s been up and down, but can definitely play defense, get rebounds and throw it down! Or do you go with small ball lineups, though remember Mbah was key for those due to his defense? As much I love Nene, I’d like to see Black and Zhou get a chance to show what they got. I’d say go small unless you’re really outmatched first, then Nene or Black depending on what type of big (old, slow, unathletic - Nene, athletic, small - Black). Zhou can definitely be useful to make it hard for McGee for example, but sparingly of course. I’d like MDA to show some flexibility and use different guys depending on strategy and matchups.
In about 6 hours Motiejunas would be free to sign a contract. But realistically speaking, Nene is a good option. He would be ready just at the right time.
Let me just say this, if we ever get into a situation where the opponent has a chance to tie or go for the win on a out of bounds play, I want Zhou Qi on the guy taking it out at least once to mix it up. He's so long, it's a serious advantage!
Our most needed position going into next year! Bring in someone big, tall, tough, who can not only block shots, but make free throws and I will yell YES!!!!!
I say Ryno at the backup unless we are getting killed on the boards. He may go 3 for the playoffs, but the bigs will come out and guard him. The space created in insane.
All depends on "matchups" who the backup C is. Nene, Anderson and Tucker will get looks. 0% chance Zhou gets a look. I don't see Black getting a look either.
Sad part is that Nene is the only real center in that list. We need another really good backup center who can block shots next year. Nene can't play enough minutes and Zhou isn't ready to take that spot yet.
