What was once IMHO one of television's best shows has now become unwatchable with the exit of the 'Bobby Donnell' and 'Helen' characters and the addition of James Spader as 'Alan Shore.' I feel like barfing everytime Spader is on screen. Thoughts?
I've liked Spader's character, though it's becomming a little overdone. But he was fun at first because he just didn't have a conscience and didn't mind saying or doing whatever he thought. But it's a character that's good in doses, not as the focal point of the show. And everybody else has become so bland.
Used to be my favorite show on TV. They got rid of Bobby and Helen? I thought Bobby was the main character and I've always had a thing for Lara Flynn Boyle. Oh well.
The Practice has really become a different show this season. Spader has become too much of the focus of the show, trumping the characters that returned from last season. I suspect that the Spader character will not wear well for an entire season, which might be the show's last.
Did you actually watch the episodes from last season? Dylan McDermott Mulroney(I never get tired of that joke) was horrible! Thank God they fired all the cast members whose characters were played out. Spader has single handedly saved this show. What I love about his character is that he'll do whatever it takes to come out on top. Sometimes that makes him look like a saint(like when he defended the young girl whose parents were forcing her to get married). Other times, he'll seem like the biggest a-hole on the planet(getting that $8 million settlement). It's a brilliant performance that's brought new life to a series that looked like it was dead a year ago. I agree that the other cast members have been marginalized by Spader's arrival on the show. I'm still trying to figure out exactly why Jessica Capshaw is even around. It can't be for her looks, cuz she ain't got nothing on Rhona Mitra. But with Alan Shore being such a great character, I don't mind that the episodes are focused primarily on him.
I like Shore, but it took some time for him to grow on me. I liked the episode where he defended the drug dealer and it looked like his crazy tactics would work, but they didn't, and the drug dealer went to jail.
EUgene needs to be brought to the forfront more I liked his character in the past as the second in command type now I want to see him in charge more Joey bulluti always got on my nerves Fudt - she had been getting marginalized for a while Same with the secretary The black chick with the short hair is gone too they just did not know what to do with her character [except almost kill her off] Rocket River
I used to really like The Practice but it really jumped the shark last year or maybe the year before. The whole Bobby/Lindsay thing was what was really unbearable for me. This season is better than the last but it seems like a completely different show with some of the same character.
