Valid reasons. Was it snarky the way I worded my question? Also prostitutes are cheap in the Philippines too.
Yeah if you go into Cancun, be aware that it is a very dangerous area in the heart of the drug trade territory. That means at a minimum you may not want to leave the resort area. Mexico has attempted to limit the problems by deploying the military to Cancun but with mixed results. Also there have been increased cases of tainted alcohol and rape and murder. I love Mexico and have traveled quite a bit, but it is more dangerous than most think and the violence is no longer just limited to the border. Right now Mexico is is in a free for all with cartels all over the country fighting for money and territory.
Thank you to everyone, including @EddieWasSnubbed and @Nook who looked out and helped a bunch. We decided on Jamaica. Jewels Dunn all inclusive but I imagine we will be doing a lot more sight seeing than if we went to Mexico. Thanks again for all the help and dialogue.
My girl and I just went to Negril last October for a week and a half and had a hell of a time. We stayed at Couples Negril which is all inclusive (adults only). The water is gorgeous and there is a lot to do, just be prepared to have a local (taxi guy or similar) with you if you want to venture out into the towns or go around the island. It isn't exactly safe outside of the resorts but we had a taxi and we drove all over the western side of the island. The local flea markets are cool and you can get some really cheap hand made cedar carvings and all kinds of stuff. Just be prepared for locals to come up to you and ask to come to their shop every 2 min. Just tell them No, or you will come back and they tended to leave us a lone. They all sit around and smoke spliffs all day and you will get asked if you want some ganja quite often. We also caught a marlin and a lot of Tuna with Stanleys deep sea fishing. There is also a bar called pelican bar that a local built out in the ocean on a reef. What a cool experience that was. I just noticed you are on the North side of the island, you definitely need to check out Dunns River falls, it is pretty awesome. We also went to YF falls down on the southern side, that was gorgeous. At YF falls there are like 7-8 falls that all come down into a lagoon that proceeds into the next falls and you can zip line all the way down. We had a blast in Jamaica and I am sure you will too. The food is also really good! I couldn't get enough of the Jerk Chicken.
Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, sounds amazing and will for sure check out the reef bar and the falls. Fishing for marlin sounds cool also. I don’t smoke, yet girl does, but I will for sure light up once at some point.
You will have a great time there. I recommend climbing Dunn's River Falls. We also did some tubing down, I believe, the White River. It was really cool, but Jamaica is very poor. Be prepared for that. Have some jerk chicken. It's good there.
She fuuucking loved it, I think it’s why she was so set on Mexico before we chose Jamaica. She stayed at fiesta americanas and did a bunch of excursions like zip lines.
I was poor a large part of my teenage years as well. Sometimes, I'm amazed at how far I've come. I remember digging under couch cushions trying to find forty cents as a junior in high school so I could buy lunch. But Jamaica is a different story. It's eye opening. As my local tour guide told us as we were passing dilapidated houses, if one generation finishes a new room on the house (as in taking the sheet metal wall and turning it into an actual wall), it's considered successful.
According to Chris Rock you'll be driving past kids munching on dreadlocks. At least the ones who aren't dead. But by the time you're sipping your first cocktail you'll be busy thinking about jetskis.
You can say that again. You will see houses like THIS everywhere. They literally build a wall when they save up the funding for it. And it does typically take a few generations to do it.
