It was likely for mar1juana for both guys, but the way ESPN worded the article who knows. To be suspended for mar1juana I think it takes 3 positive tests, I think the tests are random so its likely Nerleans and Thabo both smoke weed on a very regular basis to be getting suspensions. Its unbelievable that Nerleans would take a $4mm QO over $70mm and then not put in any effort at all. He will need to take a one year deal that isn't even the max most likely at this point. From BSPN: "The program states that players are suspended five games after a third positive test for mar1juana. Noel's ban begins Tuesday night, when Dallas faces the Portland Trail Blazers, and ends his season. Sefolosha, who has been out since January after having knee surgery, will serve his suspension when he is physically able to play."
It's really a shame that these teenagers come into the league & blow millions. But, what do we expect? How many of us in our late teens or early 20's would know how to handle 2 or 3 million dollars, knowing that next year we'd get another 2 or 3? The NBA needs to set up an advisor program for rookies.
How great would it have been if Nerlens signed that contract and sinks the Mavs for a good number of years. We should have people whispering in the ears of these types of players to help them cuff their teams.
Do we want Nerlens Noel next year? I would think someone as big and as athletic as him would THRIVE in our PnR system. Could we pay him 1/10 of Capela, lol?
Conspiracy time, the Mavs never offered him that 70 million dollar contract and are gluing him to the bench to keep his price down so they can sign him for cheap.
It was weed, which is recreationally legal in 6 NBA cities (Portland, Sacramento, Oakland/SF, LAC/LAL, Boston) - medically legal in about 10 more. It's basically not a crime/same as having a beer in over half the league locations The NBPA has to do something about this in the next CBA - this is some stupid bullshit for a league that is as progressive as the NBA. (I don't smoke weed anymore, nor do i have any plans to, for the record)
you dont think they do? rookies arent just thrown into the fire to just fend for themselves. theres programs and seminars. thats like one of the first things rookies are introduced to upon entering the league, ultimately dummies like noel are going to do what they want to do and thats make stupid decisions. noel isnt some special case. tons of guys come into the league like him with very little
I want to know if Nerlens had the munchies during the halftime of the clippers game when he had those hotdogs.
not exactly information that's really needed for people not involved. but yeah there really isn't any reason to feel bad for noel
Which is what he did this year. What did he prove? He was injured for quite a bit...but he wasn't playing before then, either. It seems he proved he's got limited work ethic, and he does drugs. What's that get you in the NBA? If you're tall and athletic, probabably...$8-10M?
