So I just bought this machine and I added it to my computer setup. Although in the past I didn't see the value in a dedicated streaming device, I have to say that just based on watchespn alone, this device is worth it. The watchespn stream on the roku is so much better, not to mention the fact that the remote and the ease of flipping through the dashboard is so much easier than streaming from a browser. I highly recommend this device.
ESPN app on the Apple TV is the best version of the ESPN streaming I've seen. Multicast sets it apart. Plus the quality of the stream seems to be better than the other streaming players.
I don't even run edge anymore. I am running linux and I'm about to turn my computer into a cli vim-ruby development system with arch linux and no gui whatsoever. That's mainly why I bought the roku was to separate my entertainment from my computer. I am sick of guis. The command line is so much better and more powerful and faster. Gui's make computers shitty.
4K Roku TVs are even better, bought 55in TCL Roku 4k during Cyber Monday 2016, don't regret that purchase at all
the thing is, there are a lot of things that you can do from the terminal that you can't do from a gui. plus the command line never moves. it will take me a while to understand everything about the command line, but all of my free time is spent looking at linux youtube videos. The biggest sacrifice with a command line is text browsing with no css or javascript support and no multimedia. but there are ways to make it easier. using rss feeds for one. I also like the fact that there is so much speed. If I want to look up the score on the game: i just type: links https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/ or I could create an alias called nbascores, and make it come up automatically. You find the websites that run text browsers the best.
