Alright, I went to se ROTK last night and it had the new preview to Harry Potter: prisoner of azkaban!!!!! Wow, now im really getting exicted about this movie. I understand the first 2 were a bit on the kid side but they did an even better job converting from the book than LOTR did IMHO.. I know LOTR had more detail to it but still. I love both series of books and i cant wait to see the new potter flick it looked much darker and grown up which is how the books get as he gets older. thats what i like about the books.. they grow with the characters. the dialogue gets better and more complex as does the writing. well i just wanted to know if any of you have seen the movies or read the books and wanted to know your opinion.
something wicked this way come... yeah just watching the trailer makes my girlfriend incredibly happy, guess I will end up seeing it.
I have read all the books...and Im pumped to see Prisoner.. It introduces Sirus(Harry's godfather) and gives you a great deal of the history of Harry's parents and Snipe. The movies will get darker and darker from here on out..as the subject matter gets more and mroe serious.
Actually, I was pretty impressed with how much darker the 2nd movie was compared to the first one. The scene with all the spiders creeped me out more than a little bit (of course, I have abnormally strong fear of spiders).
Yeah, we know you are a wuss. I'm not scared to admit it, those Harry Potter movies rock and maybe I'll see Part 3 in the theatre... That Rowling chick is so rich.
Im not sure I will go see it in the theater...I avoid the theaters under most circumstances... and not only is Rowling rich, she aint a bad looking woman if you are into MILFs...
Ah, my fellow BBS brethren. It is that time, yet again. We must rise up against this atrocity on film, and boycott the new Harry Potter movie. A day may come, when the courage of movie goers fails, and we succom to the idiocy of the Rowling; But it is not this day! This day... we fight!!!
Dude, I know you're half-joking here, but read the frelling books already. Hell, I'll send you my copy of the first one... Oh, BTW, the Silmarillion SUCKS! The Last Samurai SUCKS! Nomar Garciaparra SUCKS! *runs and hides in Afghanistan cave from nomar's wrath*
I also enjoy sunsets and long walks on the beach. I've read all the books now, and I'm wondering how in the world they are going to keep this series going if Rowling continues writing the way she is. The kids have gotten more and more adult as the series progresses and I'm thinking that by the 7th book, Harry and Ron are going to be gang-banging Hermione while snorting "magic pixie dust" and running unicorn slave rings or something. Actually, that would be a pretty sweet movie. I kind of strayed from the point there. What I meant to say was that with each successive book, Rowling has written more and more and included a good deal more subplots and narrative. When (if?) they finally get to the Order of the Phoenix, they are going to cut out some seriously huge chunks of the books in order to make a movie that isn't 5 hours long. Nomar will be devestated because it won't follow the book word for word, and then I'll cry because Nomar is upset. It's bad business, I tell ya.
I really liked the first two Harry Potter movies. They were a little schmaltzy in places, but they were still lots of fun. The third one is directed by Alfonso Cuaron (The Little Princess, Y Tu Mama Tambien). With darker material and a more "mature" storyteller, the third Harry Potter should be pretty dang good. One question, though: Why isn't Tim Burton involved with these movies? He'd be absolutely perfect -- especially for "The Goblet of Fire," my favorite of the books.
I don't know about Burton. The thing that makes these films work is that they are fantasy and fairy tale (which Burton does exceptionally well) but they are also fairly in your face from a story standpoint. They have twists and turns but they aren't dark in the same way Burton does dark. I love the way Burton does fantasy and I think he is brilliant when it comes to doing fairy tales, but I just don't think his dark, mysterious bent would translate well to pre-pubescent kids playing in fantasy land.
Book 5 was weak. SPOILER Kill off a real character next time. I was expecting someone important to die, not some side character.
I'd rather read all of the Dune books for the 300th time than read that drivel. I'm actually looking for a book to read now. I'm thinking of picking up some Asimov. I heard he had a little talent. But seriously, I notice how you left Farscape out of that little fit of spite.
The Foundation series is pretty good - they may actually be making a movie of it, too, though I don't know how.
The Foundation series is pretty damn good. Definitely recommended. And, BTW, why would I bash Farscape? I didn't bash Dune, either, y'know. And for good reason, too: It's actually good. The Silmarillion, OTOH, really does suck.
I never saw it. I'm just employing the same idiot logic you use to bash Harry Potter. "It's just a children's book; how good can it be?" = "It's got freaking Tom Cruise in it; how good can it be?"
But I watched the first movie... Also, I've never seen a Tom Cruise movie which I didn't love. TC: The Outsiders Risky Business Top Gun Cocktail Rainman Days of Thunder A Few Good Men The Firm Interview With A Vampire Mission Impossible Jerry Maguire Vanilla Sky Minority Report Plus all of those I haven't seen, like Magnolia, Color of Money, Born on the 4th of July, etc. Cruise is the man, you can't deny.
