After reading about the tons of fans sending money and love letters to mass murderer Nikolas Cruz, I am disgusted. I know their have always been those oddballs that write mass murderers, but this really disgusts me. But, to top it off is the fact that he now has $800 and growing being deposited into his commissary account by these oddballs. Truly disgusting. This guy murdered innocent kids.

I personally don't think inmates deserve getting money to use in the commissary. They should have to work for it while in prison.

not to defend Cruz, but with regard to your Poll, this "inmate" has not stood trial, yet. He's in jail, not prison. So, question back: In general, for arrested people awaiting trial, some can post bond and be home, and others can't or are given no bond by the judge. The ones who are not out on bail, what's wrong with family/friends sending them commissary money? By law, they are innocent, still.

I think your poll is really about Prison Inmates who stood trial and are found guilty, not those awaiting trial.

    -----------------------------------------
Back to Cruz, this is interesting: You can read samples of the letters that he is receiving, here

The amount of fan mail the Parkland shooter is receiving is unreal

I like this comment by a psychotherapist who explains how some people who send letters in this situation might have a savior complex and self-serving ego for reaching out:

"There are some people who are more codependent in terms of mindset that think, 'Oh, this poor soul. I can fix him. I can be important in his life,'" she said."
Also willing to bet some people have ulterior motives to become pen pals to share for money, whether writing a book or selling to an author later. We don't have too many surviving shooters like this.

fwiw: article says he's not being made aware of these letters, because he's on suicide watch, so he can't receive mail.

Sure, he hasn't stood trial, and in the eyes of the law he is innocent until proven guilty. But, I don't think there is any doubt he was the killer. He admitted it, and there were plenty of witnesses, who saw him gunning down their friends.

What does that have to do with your poll? I made it very clear that my comments were in response to your poll.

Stick to the poll, and your general comment at the end, if you want to continue a conversation.

Maybe you want to grant judges the power to withhold commissary privileges to ppl awaiting trial, like they can withhold bail. otherwise, it is just wrong to allow ppl out on bail who can afford it, but deny those who also haven't stood trial and don't have money for bail to be denied having family post money to a commissary account.

I get the anger at a cold blooded murderer being gifted money for the prison commissary. But you can't fix that without ruining the situation for other inmates who are stuck in prison without the ability to post bail who rely on family commissary money.

Besides, word has probably already gotten around about his new found commissary money and most likely he's already being extorted by other inmates.

Fwiw: He's in solitary on Suicide Watch. According to the article I posted, he doesn't have access to his "fan mail." He doesn't even know he has mail, so probably doesn't know about the money.

That was my mistake and I didn't know how to pull it off and put it on the other thread.

Glad to see you aren't a serial commanist.

But umm, there are no serial comma situations in that Lin text. All those commas are for either subordinate or independent clauses.

    come at me, bro!

the video actually reflected my "who gives a f*ck" response to the Lin thread being revived. You have made an incorrect inference about its relevance to that thread. ;)

Why does it matter how he or anyone else makes their money? Just mind your business and chase your own paper.

Unfortunately I agree with Mr. Brightside ;-)

We cannot control what other people do with their money
I am far more concerned with interest groups like the NRA purchasing politicians
than I am any prison getting money from stupid, crazy fanatics

Living like a Rock Star in prison . . . .is still in prison

The immoral criminality and corruption in our own governmental systems is far far more deserving of disgust and contempt

    Child Murdering Cops were going over given hundreds of thousands of dollars. . . . so . . .nah . . .. . . .
Criminals get money all the time. . . .. what's the difference?

Just thinking about it. Living it up in there, getting to make instant coffee and ramen noodles with almost hot water whenever they want.
