A lot of guys being mentioned here have played many years in the league and/or were injured. The former means they were less of a bust than Eddie, and the later disqualifies them from this discussion (see hikanoo49's qualifier).

Given that, Traylor and Bender are still playing, so that puts them ahead of Eddie, so that leaves Sharone and Doug Smith. Pretty select company.

Also, I'll be suprised if anyone signs Eddie before his legal issues are resolved. And I haven't seen anything in his character to suggest that this latest news will motivate him to be anything more than a 12 pt/6 reb guy.

and here are a couple old school whoppers:

LaRue Martin, #1 Pick, 1972 NBA Draft
The 6-foot-11 center averaged 5.3 points per game and 4.6 rebounds in his four NBA seasons, all with the Portland Trail Blazers. With the No. 2 pick, the Buffalo Braves selected Bob McAdoo out of North Carolina. Other first-round picks: Paul Westphal, picked 10th by the Celtics, and Julius Erving, selected 12th by the Bucks.

Bill McGill, #1 Pick, 1962 NBA Draft
The Chicago Zephyrs liked the looks of Bill "The Hill" McGill, a 6-9, 225-pound center out of Utah. But McGill would play only five seasons for five different NBA and ABA teams, averaging 10 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Among the players Chicago passed on: John Havlicek, selected seventh (the final first round pick) by the Celtics.

Sam Bowie and Sam Perkins selected second and 4th in '84. Third was Jordan and fifth was Barkley.

Joe Smith as had pretty solid numbers. At least he's a starter.

Now, Pervis Ellison was also a #1 pick...

Remember how everybody booed Horry's selection? There wasn't a single soul outside of the Rockets organization who would have passed on Minor.

Ed O'bannon. Fans in Toronto booed on draft night when the Raptors passed on him cause he was that hyped up.

Yea I agree on Ed Obannon. I said that on a different post earlier. Nets made a lot of bad draft decisions in the early 90s. Poor Willis Reed.

Bowie was a flop due to injuries, and Perkins actually had a long a relatively decent career. Eddie's had niether.

Dare, O'Bannon and Minor were all flops...but they were also not top 6 picks. That's what makes Eddie the bigger flop.

Len Bias was a number one pick, he made a bad choice with the drugs, just like EG.

After thinking about why some of these guys were busts, I have one quote. "Drugs are bad......ok."

Leon Smith... Wrote a paper on the subject of the league imposing a minimum age limit... Griffin would have applied here.

Jonathan Bender is not a bust.
I wouldn't call EG the biggest bust ever or along those lines because he was not even a top 5 pick. If the Rox had the #1 and picked him, that would be a different story.

Bowie and perkins as busts? Wow, ya gotta read about the NBA some more... Larue Martin and Len Bias both for very different reasons define busts (more so than Griffin IMO). But Washburn is the definitive answer. Here's two more... Cyril Baptiste and Leon Smith...
